Combat prognosis broken !?

Post by MTTODD »

Hi,

Have reloaded game and replayed combat attacks, have done this as much as 10 times for different unit attacks
but game always gives same results!

Is this some kind of anti-cheat function! or is the game broken ?

Is kind of annoying, as has made me lose faith in the combat model.

Many thanks for any help.

Some more info, I am playing as Central powers in 1914 campaign turn 2 attacking Serbia with the Austrians:

- Artillery unit attacks cavalry unit(North West of Belgrade) combat prognosis 1-0 (played 30 times always 1 -0)

- Infantry unit attacks same cavalry unit, combat prognosis 3-2 (played 30 times always 1-2)

- Infantry unit attacks same cavalry unit, combat prognosis 2-2 (played 30 times always 0-5)

- Infantry unit attacks same cavalry unit, combat prognosis 4-1 (played 30 times always 2-4)

The results never change, surely this is wrong ?

As I wrote in the Tech Support thread...I had to re-start my multi-player game due to an error message. I tried to duplicate everything exactly as I had before (I was very happy with my original result)...my replay was not as good as the attacks did not do the same damage as the original. Was I just unlucky? I have the latest patch...
Conflict with the unexpected: two qualities are indispensable; first, an intellect which, even in the midst of this obscurity, is not without some traces of inner light which lead to the truth; second, the courage to follow this faint light. KvC

Been playing this game for quite some time now and have seen my fair share of "unforced/or forced" CTDs, resulting in restarts of a turn. Yes the restarts usually give a player less than desirable results, regardless of what the Combat Prognosis indicates.

As much as I really like the game, I find the combat prognosis (CP report) somewhat convoluted (not going into details, there are so many), I still view the CP report, often with skepticism, in the end it often comes down to an educated guess (on my part) to attack or not. The CP report may give me some known or unknown details about a targeted unit, such as: If they have gas masks or not, which otherwise is not readily available info.

Above all: I don't expect the owner of this game or the dev's to do a frigging thing about it, for as of late they have been MIA or completely abandoned the game. You might as well pray to God to expect any programming changes at this juncture. Good Luck![:)]

Attack French pre-dreanought with sub, should be 1-0 in my favour.

No matter how many times I play it, it's always 0-1 in French favour.

Is it just me, or have other people experienced similar erroneous results.

This sounds not good. I've just started playing this game. To hear that the devs don't care about it, is somewhat disillusioning me...

Hey! It's just my "gut feeling"! It's like when you make a phone call that never get's answered: They either don't have their answering machine on to leave a message to, or they plain out-and-out don't want to hear from you, or they could care less. That's my impression.[:@] Until someone get's off their "high-horse" to explain what is going on, I think the whole thing "STINKS"...[:-]

I have posted a question regarding my combat prognosis issues with tech support.

As of yet I have received no reply.

I do hope that this game will be well supported by the developer.

I think the combat results are driven by multiple passes through a random number generator ... the equivalent of throwing the dice ten times, averaging the result and then loooking up the results on a Combat Results Table (CRT for all you old board gamers out there). Remember the old 3-1 combat odds that on the roll of a single die roll could yield anything from "Attacker Eliminated" to "Defender Eliminated"?

However, there is no such thing as a true random number generator, it depends on a "seed" and the 1st result becomes the seed for the next round, and on and on. The next seed is usually saved between turns, so if you stop the game and reload from, say, and AutoSave, the seed is the same every time you restart. The consequence is that if you keep doing the same things in the same sequence over and over, you get the same combat result.

Try doing another combat first (or maybe two or three) and see if your results on your Artillery/Infantry vs. Cavalry change. The combat prognosis is mostly genereating a static result, a result you might see on average if you ran the combat through a random number generator using a different "seed" every time. Since you are using the same seed every time you keep getting the same "random" result every time. In other words the CP tells you what should happen over a long period of time in the same situation. The random number generator adds the element of the unknown into the results, which ultimately makes it a far more interesting and re-playable game.

Having not actually disected the combat results subroutines I can't guarantee that this is what is happening, but I have run into the same situation in other games where I did know how the CRT worked.

hi,

Thanks for your reply, I will give that a try.

It's a shame that the developers don't contribute to the discussion!

This is in stark contrast to the other WW1 game I have played (Strategic command) where Hubert is fantastic in replying to user questions.

Too many bugs, glitches, etc. Silly naval combat system. Shoddy work on the developers' part.
