Land Combat Results Tables

Post by RocketMan »

Why is the Land Combat Results Table greyed out in the Main Form Help menu?

Image

Edit: I noticed in the Chapter 6 Video Tutorial "Main Form, Screen Layout & Map Views" it is greyed out as well, so it's not something that's unique to my system.

They are available during the Land Combat Resolution phase.

The problem with displaying them is that the code expects there to be a current land combat. Then it shows highlighted columns for the Assault and Blitz tables.

Those tables are available in the Players Manual (in the back) with explanations for all the die roll modifications and column shifts.

OK, fair enough. I was looking for the tables to determine how to calculate odds in my first Barbarossa game and looked there first.

And you're right in part Shannon: The combat tables are in the back of the players manual, but the explanations for die roll modifications and column shifts is only there for the 2D10 combat table, not the 1D10 one. There is also a really nice PDF of the 2D10 combat table in the \Manual folder called 2d10 ADG.pdf, but there is no corresponding 1D10 one (which is what the quick start Barbarossa scenario uses). The 1D10 table is also shown on the WiFCHart.pdf file, again in the \Manuals folder, but again it doesn't show the die roll modifiers. It does show a table for Weather Effects from section 8.2 of the RAW though, which includes the effects on land combat. You have to go to section 8.7.2.22 of the RAC to finally get the die roll modifiers used on the 1D10 Land Combat Results Table. Plus, of course, you have to get the information from the the terrain effects table, which can be found in multiple places.

In short, finding the information for the 2D10 Land Combat Results Table is easy, while finding the information for the 1D10 one is more difficult.

Being a new player, I decided to make a cheat sheet for myself with all that information in one place. It is shown below if anybody else ever wants to use it. For the experienced players, please let me know if I left any relevant information off the chart.

You can choose the combat table when you choose options in any scenario. If you use options for adding Divisions and Artillery along with 1D10 then I recommend using the "Blitz Mods" option as well or otherwise your game will turn into WWI.

To add the Blitz Mods to your chart you should find them in the Rules as Coded by word searching for "Blitz Bonus". They make a couple appearances.

In 2D10 you would never use Blitz Mods as a version of them is built into that table.

I planned on using the default settings in the Barbarossa Quick Start Scenario for my first game, which only includes a few optional rules (Blitz Bonus, but not Divisions or Artillery). I think I am going to just start a new game instead of using the Quick Start though and use the 2D10 table, Divisions and Artillery.

Also, thanks for the info paulderynck but if you look at my chart it does include the section form the rules regarding Blitz Bonus rules.
