I suspect the KB aircraft were on Naval/Port setting. The bulk of 34th IR is aboard undamaged ships and escapes eastward toward Tanna and out of range. Except for some AK's under fighter cover at Norfolk, the KB bombers have nothing to attack..except the port.

Afternoon Air attack on Noumea , at 115,160

Weather in hex: Heavy cloud

Raid spotted at 39 NM, estimated altitude 16,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 16 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 54
B5N1 Kate x 6
B5N2 Kate x 90

Japanese aircraft losses
B5N1 Kate: 1 damaged
B5N2 Kate: 5 damaged

Allied Ships
DM Tracy, Bomb hits 1, heavy fires, heavy damage
AE Lassen, Bomb hits 2, heavy fires, heavy damage
AD Dixie, Bomb hits 3, heavy fires, heavy damage

Allied ground losses:
9 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled

Port hits 5
Port supply hits 2

It will take forever to fix all this. Tanna should be level 2 today, giving another base for SBD's

19th century presidents got an AP named after them. Modern presidents seem to get a CVN. Of course, the Navy could always change things up. [:)]

"Well Senator, I have to hand it to you as this is quite a novel suggestion. I understand that the smaller sized Navy had limited the number of named ships, but to propose naming the CHT tanks on currently named CVN's after special 'Dignitaries' is brilliant."

"I got the idea from the movie The Green Berets, I always liked the name Provo's Privy - it sings!"

Perhaps name subs after them? They go up and down like political fortunes, but nearly always manage to resurface, sometimes in unexpected places. And they excel at torpedoing others ...

Ahhh...splendid! I see everyone is behaving themselves in a convivial and civilized fashion and following the forum rules even though everyone here knows exactly what Mr. witpqs was hinting at. [:'(]

OK - lest I be accused of being decorous, I was typing at the same time as witpqs and he posted just before me, so I did not see the opportunity to maintain my reputation ... such as it is.

Convivial - adjective 1. friendly; agreeable: a convivial atmosphere. 2. fond of feasting, drinking, and merry company; jovial. 3. of or befitting a feast; festive.

Decorous - adjective 1. characterized by dignified propriety in conduct, manners, appearance, character, etc.

Put these two together on one gets a Red Wedding.

Aye. And their re-circulation of slightly radioactive air aboard is also fitting. How about that most aboard are blind about their surroundings and that only one person gets to look through a tiny hole to see the outside world as it truly is? And then does whatever the hell he wants after he inevitably (mis)interprets what he thinks he saw?

But if he let on it was a peephole into the ladies' locker room there would be chaos aboard!

While that *would* be the MO of one of our recent Presidents, that probably isn't the MO of the one I'm thinking about...[;)]

This is why the Marines drink Old Milwaukee. Tastes great warm or cold, or at least the same anyways.

Fellow in Hawaiian shirt seems much too smart to 'volunteer' for mini-sub duty... or he's a quick learner! [:D]
