game freezes

Post by jnpoint »

I haven't played the game for some time now, but as I tried today the game freezes every time I tried. Already after the first air execution phase it freezed.

Will there be an update soon or can I do anything myself?

What version you are running? Is this repeatable? Did you try to disable sounds (rename sound folder in \dat )?

The new version 1.00.29

I have experienced this in both Operation Husky and 1943-45 Campaign. Same story every time - after air execution phase 100% it just freezes. I can move my mouse cursor but everything else is frosen.

I have not done anything with the sound.

When I got the game there were no problems at all, so what happened? It must be one of the updates!

I have no idea what could be wrong. We have no reports on this issue from anyone else. Air execution runs and eds smoothly for me as all, including 1.00.29.

You may try to delete (rename) preference file, in case something is not set correctly there - dat\save\wirpref.dat

I renamed dat/save/wirpref.dat and now it began the amphibous phase, but could not finish it (tried 5 times). It didn't freeze at the same point, not once. Maybe I have to reinstall the whole game?

Very odd, indeed. Clean reinstall certainly would eliminate some potential integrity issues.

I did reinstall, but it changed nothing, so I renamed the sound folder. That did the trick. So now it works, but I miss the sound :(

Can read that I'm not the only one with that problem, so I hope they will fix the problem in a near future.

The sound problem is not one of their making though. There is a plethora of sound codecs out there and just because you download one and put it on your computer doesn't make it perfect. Most of them have problems. All they can do is make sure it works with the stock codec that comes with windows.

In other words, they cant fix other peoples mistakes.

I think that it is possible to make game immune to bad code. The problem is that it is not so easy to replicate it. I had it only once and it never returned once memory allocation was optimized.

Another aspect that dx engine used for the sound playback is very old. I made a build with newer libraries on my laptop during vacation time, but it was never tested as my laptop's HDD went dead.

You are right that they can't fix other peoples mistakes. But I have 50+ games and this one is the only one with sound problems - strange isn't it?

Try using the Codec Tweak Tool. It seems that some players were able to fix their sound issue by fixing their codec issues through it:

I tried, but it did not solve the problem, so I guess that it was/is not the VLC. It seems to be Windows Media Player, because that is the onle media player I have left on my PC.

Soon Win 10 is released, and then Windows Media Player is gone for good. Maybe that will solve my problem :)

I have the same problem. I'm not too crazy about the Codec Tweak Tool. I ran it and 1) it didn't solve the problem; 2) it looks to have un-registered some codecs. I saved a "Before Log" before I ran the tool. After I ran it, I generated an "After Log". There were 3 codecs that showed as broken, and the reason given was that they were not registered. The "Before Log" showed them as registered. Why would it do that?

Dealing with codecs/filters is always VERY painful. I've fixed codec issues in the past with this tool. It's a nice tool but that doesn't mean that it's flawless.

You can also try to install a codec pack. At least some people claim that they were able to fix their codec issues this way.
I used to suggest for some players experiencing the same sound codec issues with Panzer Corps, that they should try K-Lite codec pack version 7.9. It's an old version but it seems to fix the issue with Panzer Corps.
You can download it from the link below:

Of course what works for others might not work for you.
