Thread for DB3000 database problems, updates or issues

Post by Mgellis »

To help with the general effort of adding more about Africa to the database, I have tried to track down as much information as I could find (mostly from Jane's Fighting Ships, but also some from Wikipedia and other sources) about Ghana's navy. Thanks for considering these!

GHANA

Lurssen PB 57 FAC

P 28 Achimota
P 29 Yogaga
Displacement: 389 tons full load
Dimensions: 58.1 m x 7.6 m. x 2.8 m
Main machinery: 3 MTU 16V 538 TB91 diesels; 9,210 hp(m) (6.78 MW) sustained; 3 shafts
Speed: 30 knots
Range: not given, but the Spanish Lazaga-class, which is very similar is listed as 700 naut. miles at 27 knots and 3,000 miles at 15 knots
Complement: 55 (5 officers)
Guns: 1 x OTO Melara 3-inch compact; 1 x Breda 40mm/70
Weapons control: LIOD optronic director
Radars: surface search/fire control: Thomson-CSF Canopus A; I/J-band; Navigation: Decca TM 1226C; I band
Operational Dates: 1981-present

Albatros (Type 143) FAC

Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Navy) says that two German Albatros-class FACS (P 27 Sebo and P 31 Dzata) were transferred in 2010 (so, Operational dates would be 2010-present, I suppose). I’m guessing the data would be the same as that listed in the database for the Albatros-class from 1988-2004 (listed as #1386)

P 33 Stephen Otu

Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghana_Navy) also says a South Korean Chamsuri-class was donated in 2011 (Operational dates: 2011-present). Here is the Wikipedia data for the ship:

Class and type: Chamsuri-class patrol boat, Stephen Otu-class
Pennant: P 33 Stephen Otu
Displacement: 170 tonnes
Length: 37m (121 ft 5 in)
Beam: 7 m (23 ft 0 in)
Draft: 1.7 m (5 ft 7 in)
Propulsion: CODAG, 2 x MTU MD538 TU90 Diesel Engine
Speed: 37 knots (69 km/h; 43 mph)
Range: 600 nautical miles at 20 knots
Sensors and processing systems: 1 x STX RadarSys SPS-100k surface search radar, 1 x Saab CEROS fire radar and optronic sight
Electronic warfare and decoys: 2 x KDAGAIE Mk2 decoys
Armament: 1 x Bofors 40mm gun, 2 x Sea Vulcan (late model)

Information from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNS_Stephen_Otu_%28P33%29

Gepard Class Fast Attack Craft

Wikipedia says two were purchased from Germany in 2012 (Operational dates: 2012-present); these appear to be the same as the ones in #1381 in the database. As far as I can tell from the one image I could find, the Exocet missiles are still there, but I could be mistaken.

Lurssen FPB 45

Operational Dates: 1980-2010 (both commissioned in 1980; decommissioning date is a guess, based on the fact that the same ship names are used for the Albatross-class ships transferred in 2010; I’m guessing the Albatross-class ships are replacements for these two vessels)
Pennant numbers: P 26 Dzata; P 27 Sebo
Displacement: 269 tons full load
Dimensions: 44.9 m x 7 m x 2.7 m
Main machinery: 2 MTU 16V 538 TB91 diesels; 6,140 hp(m) (4.5 MW) sustained; 2 shafts
Speed: 27 knots
Range: 1,800 naut. miles at 16 knots; 700 naut. miles at 25 knots
Complement: 45 (5 officers)
Guns: 2 Bofors 40mm/70
Radars: Surface search: Decca TM 1226C; I-band

Defender Class
(already requested)

Ghana is listed as having seven of these (three in 2008, four more in 2010); Operational dates: 2008-present

Balsam Class PBO

(former USCG vessels)

Operational dates: 2001-present
Pennant numbers: P 30 Anzone (ex-WLB 407); P 31 Bonsu (ex-WLB 405)
Displacement: 1034 tons full load
Dimensions: 54.9 m x 11.3 m. x 3.8 m.
Main machinery: Diesel electric: 2 diesels, 1402 hp (1.06 MW); 1 motor; 1200 hp (895 kw); 1 shaft; bow thruster
Speed: 13 knots
Range: 8,000 miles at 12 knots
Complement: 53
Guns: 2 x 12.7 mm MGs
Radar: Navigation: Raytheon SPS-64(V)1

(Unfortunately, very little information is available on Ghana's newest class, the Snake-class 46.8m patrol vessels ordered from China. The Wikipedia page has their pennant names and numbers, and the fact that they were commissioned in 2012, but I could not find out anything else about them. Sorry.)

For anyone looking for information...

This site may prove useful for tracking down information for some ships. It is apparently a history of US shipbuilding and includes things like "Small Combatants Built for Export" (http://www.shipbuildinghistory.com/hist ... xports.htm).

http://www.shipbuildinghistory.com/index.html

LOTS of data here. And I don't think there are direct links to all of the tables (I couldn't find one for the export table above, for example) so there may be even more information in this site than what it looks like from the main index page.

I hope this helps.

Wonderful, thanks!

How many missiles do you think the bomber an carry? Is the weapon too heavy for carrying 4 of these?

[UPDATED DB v440]

Just a heads up on some ISD/OSD dates for UK aircraft.

Lynx AH7 is now out of service http://www.army.mod.uk/news/27134.aspx
The Puma HC2, Chinook HC6 and Wildcat HMA2 all declared IOC this year with Wildcat AH1 and Merlin HM2 both declared IOC last year (2014) http://www.rickinghamphotography.co.uk/ ... elicopters

Please note that units that enter service late one year appear as IOC'ed the next. This is to avoid having units appear in scens before they were actually operational.

Mark,

Maybe we should add the Angolan OOB? The South African OOB is pretty complete but there's no-one to shoot at currently. Would be great if you could help us piece together what's missing for a 1980s scenario, for air, surface and air defences.

Thanks! [:D]

[UPDATED DB v440]

Some corrections for the Chinese AGI #2565 - Type XXX [851 Dongdiao].

To start, the DB name should be changed to Type 815 [851 Dongdiao]. (In case this matters, the ship was commissioned as Dongdiao 232.)

Regarding its armament, there's also something to do. The ship already is equipped with two 25mm/60 Twin AAA guns which is right. Ingame, the AAAs are placed facing forward but the ship actually carries those on top of the aft hangar looking in the opposite direction. On the forward deck, there should be a single Twin-barreled 37mm canon, possibly the 37mm/63 Type 76 Twin DP.

Last, when it comes to the aircraft facilities, I noticed two things: First, in reality the ship is equipped with a hangar as opposed to the game. Second, Looking at some pictures of those aircraft facilities, I doubt that neither the flightdeck nor the hangar is big enough to host large aircraft.

[ADDED DB v440]

CHINA

Type 055 Cruiser

I have read through the various articles available on the Type 055 cruiser being built by the Chinese and tried to work up a preliminary version that could be included in the database. Obviously, as more information comes out, this will need to be revised, but at least it gets the cruiser in the database so it can be used in scenarios. Thanks for considering this one.

Operational dates: 2019-
Displacement: 12,000 tons
Dimensions: 183 m. x 22 m. x 7.7 m.
Main machinery: 4 x QC-280 gas turbines
Speed: 35 knots
Range: 6,000 naut. miles at 18 knots
Complement: 350

Weapons:

• 4 x VLS type GJB 5860-2006A; this is the same type GJB 5860-2006 VLS used with the Type 052D, but the Type 055 has four of them, instead of 2, so it has up to 128 missiles instead of 64. In addition, the fictional GJB 5860-2006A adds to the CY-3 ASROC, HQ-9B, and YJ-18 the CJ-10, a ship-launched version of the DF-10 GLCM (weapon #2112 and facility database #1679, CJ-10 TEL Batter). Possible loadouts for the four 32-slot options: 10 CY-3 ASROC + 22 HQ-9B/32 HQ-9B/16 HQ-9B + 16 YJ-18/32 x CJ-10
• 1 x H/PJ-38 130mm dual purpose gun
• 2 x 30 mm remote controlled gun
• 1 x H/PJ-12 CIWS
• 1 x HHQ-10 short range SAM in 24-cell launcher
• 6 torpedo tubes w. Yu-7 torpedoes
• 4 x 18-tube decoy rocket launcher

Electronics: Until better information is available, maybe just use the radar/sonar/ECM suite for the Type 052D destroyer (database #2296)
Docking facilities: 2 x davit (each will handle up to 1 x 11m RHIB)
Helicopter facilities: pad for 1 medium aircraft; hanger for 2 medium aircraft

[NEED MORE INFO]

All variants of the RN Type 45 Destroyer appear to be unable to detect ballistic missiles.

The S1850M (SMART-L) Radar on the Type 45 and various other European ships is capable of tracking ballistic missiles at ranges from 1000-2000km depending on source.

SMART-L has been used by NATO alongside AEGIS during exercises to intercept ballistic missiles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LPdmxnBkIU

While ballistic missile tracking was not part of the initial operating capability of SMART-L it is now part of its capability (https://www.thalesgroup.com/en/worldwid ... mart-l-ewc) there is no evidence that I have found to suggest that a hardware upgrade is required - therefore the upgrade is surely software based.

Is this an oversight or is there a reason why this capability was not implemented ?

I was looking forward to defending RAF Akartori from Syrian SCUD's with T45 :(

Here is what I was able to glean from Jane's Fighting Ships. It looks likes Angola's navy pretty much collapsed around 1992 or 1993. Since 1993 they have had nothing but a few patrol boats, and I have not been able to find many details on these, but I'll keep looking.

According to Wikipedia, "On 5 September 2014, the Angolan Minister of Defence João Manuel Lourenço and Brazil`s Minister of Defence Celso Amorim signed a Memorandum of Understanding as part of Angola`s Naval Power Development Program (PRONAVAL). The MOU specifies that Angola will acquire seven Macaé-class patrol vessel, four to be built in Brazil, and three in Angola. The Brazilian EMGEPRON will have the lead in the project, overseeing the Angolan shipyard and training in addition to overall project management." Information on these will be included below.

[KNOWN ISSUE, WILL BE FIXED FOR 1.10]

There may be an error in the LaWs. In the database the LaWs with the laser coil has an air Poh of 90% but if playing the game the actual air Poh is 30%.

Attached is message log. Thanks for looking into this.

The SMART-L EWC [BMD Mod] radar has been added to the Dutch ships from 2015 onwards, but I haven't found any info that the RN ships have been upgraded.
