Wild Weasel

Post by drhyed »

Can Wild Weasel aircraft attack Radar Emitters from further than the 4 hex limit? Ive been playing with it all afternoon and haven't had any luck. The HARM has a range of 40000m but whats the point of any range if it cant be applied?

Thanks

Jay,

All airstrikes are abstracted in an target/air defense/strike model. The 2.010 update we are working on has a heavy revamp of the ARM attack model and some data fixes as well. That should work much better once you have it.

Offhand from what I remember about Wild Weasel missions, they were intended to suppress enemy air defenses in support of deep operational airstrikes. I doubt there would have been any on-call support for the tactical engagements like we're seeing in these scenarios. But certainly the model should be improved as necessary for more accurate effects, if such missions are included in a scenario.

Depends on the scenario, but if there is a large enough threat from a SAM I'm sure you could get some help.

If I had a battalions worth of helicopters getting continually painted with radar Id be screaming at my air op's (probably a major, but depending on the situation an air force major) for suppression. While Wild Weasels could/would support a deep strike mission, depending on the assets available and the overall battle space picture I would expect some level Wild Weasel support especially on some of the larger scenarios presented.

In the opening days of what I think WW3 would have looked like you could have screamed at whoever you liked.

1) The EW level would have your radio spewing white noise at you.

2) The hard-runway airfields were all hit by chemical missiles and are inoperable.

3) You need something done about it? Do it yourself!
