Moscow and Leningrad Mils are railed to the Northern front. Leningrad Mil is replaced by a Garr railed in.
Map of Europe after USSR land moves. When Soviet recon reports Memel to be unoccupied by German troops, an Inf moves in forcing a Trans and 3 CP to rebase. The Soviet navy in the Baltic tries to intercept.
Edit: revised map attached. Redid the naval intercept as wrong call re air support made. See below.
First the CP's. On a 9 the intercept fails. The CP's join their colleagues in Kohlberg.
Next the Trans. On a 1, the intercept succeeds. Germany has a Me-109, a Fw-190, a Ju-88 and a Finn Ftr that could offer air support. No air support flies. (Edit: I originally called this to fly the Ftr when Mayhemizer had gone offline as I couldn't save. Unfortunately it wasn't the call he would have made so I've re-done the moves, keeping the die rolls).
Axis search is a 3. USSR has 5 surprise points and uses them to increase damage to an X. On a 3, the Trans is sunk.
2 combats declared. USSR partisans do a low odds attack against the errant German Inf div in the North. The Communists launch a pretty desperate attack on an Inf Div threatening the resource hex near Lanchow. Do the Japs wish to add ground support?
Looks like German troops needs a motivation speech...
HEROES OF GERMANY! For an amateur situation might look desperate. But this is only a well planned trap, US has seen that USSR is the evil, not us like others claims. Very soon we get our secret weapons in action and both USSR and CW will suffer like never before. We will destroy their armies! We have been just waiting and waiting, but now it is time for our great counter attack.
Counter attack objectives for July:
Push USSR army out of Rumania, Poland and Baltic countries. Push CW unit to sea in Greece, conquer Yugoslavia and take back Rome.
Counter attack objectives August:
Push CW unit to sea in Italy. In USSR army group north and army group south meet behind Pripet Marshes. Take Leningrad.
Counter attack objectives before first snow:
Push USSR army behind Ural mountains.
Mean while Kriegs Marine will sink millions of tons enemy convoys and Luftwaffe will destroy all factories in UK.
Victory is near! All we need is determination and courage! (Also rolling 20 in every land combat would help...)
Edit: This is not impossible, this is inevitable.
If your attack is going really well, it's an ambush.
I wonder if the Axis could recover in this game if the US never enters the war...and assuming the Axis knew it would not for planning purposes? (the US will enter the war...just posing the question). Germany/Japan vs CW/USSR/China.
As the Axis, I prefer to maximize Italian production (and even loan them BP's for special projects) from the first opportunity (DOW on the first turn). They have interesting and useful units, and 'can' take care of important strategic objectives on their own. Taking Athens and aligning Yugo is one of them.
Conflict with the unexpected: two qualities are indispensable; first, an intellect which, even in the midst of this obscurity, is not without some traces of inner light which lead to the truth; second, the courage to follow this faint light. KvC
The Ge/It pool has one chit in the entry pool and one in the tension pool. The Japan entry pool is somewhat healthier but I'm not at my PC so don't have the exact number. One chit in the tension pool.
Certainly in Europe the U.S. is some way off from arriving to win the war singlehanded. This game is by no means a done deal.
These Axis 3rd Inf Divs are made of tough stuff. The Japanese put up a staunch defence, beating off waves of attackers and leaving the Communist forces exhausted.
