Thanks for the hint, but my problem evidently is only an error in the graphic representation of the radius.
If I got my maths right I need level 5 for the B17s, making Noumea adequate. I just bombed the hell out off the miserable guys opposing my invasion on extended range.
Since there are so many helpfull veterans involved it might be allowed to ask some other newbie questions:
When there are several groups on an airfield by clicking on the airfield symbol a menu pops up showing the # of supported groups and planes. This menu is missing when there is only one group at the airfield. Is there a workaround?
How is the # of groups already present on a certain airfield calculated? Seems way too low in many cases. (Hope this is not in the manual, but I dont have it at hand)
Sometimes, air units that are part of the same "HQ" don't count. I think. Maybe I'm observing incorrectly. This is an area of the game I don't pay attention to the rules much on as the game's interface tells me whether or not my airfield is overstacked (either by planes or by units). I will overstack at times, but if you do so you should always take into account the increased chance that your units won't even fly or will be uncoordinated.
Units that are standing down/on training only count for 1/3 of a unit for the purposes of stacking, IIRC. I think somebody else posted something to that effect just the other day.
The maximum number of squadrons for the purposes of stacking is a function of airfield size and whether you have air HQ(s) present.
