Multiple Installs

I tried this some time ago so that I'd be able to play one of the DBB Mods with the extended map and continue a game started with the regular map. I ended up with a regular nightmare mess that took forever to fix. I'd like to try the BigB 1942 Mod but I have a regular PBEM going and don't want to mess that up.

I've pretty much forgotten exactly how I tried to set the 2 installs up (it didn't work in the end). Any advice would be appreciated.

I just went through this recently.

I found that desktop short cut links only work if the executable is in a folder named War in the Pacific Admirals Edition.

I created subfolders for each different game version titled like: WITPAE Babes, WITPAE BTS and WITPAE Focus Pacific.

In each of those subfolders I created a folder named War in the Pacific Admirals Edition and copied all files from the original install into each of them.

Then I installed the files necessary for each mod into the respective folders and created desk top short cuts to the executable in each folder.


Not sure if this is how everyone else does it, but it has worked fine for me.

Here is how I do it. Simplest and most convenient method in Windows 7.



For the game shortcuts, simply right-click on the game .exe in whichever directory you want to create a shortcut for and click "Send to desktop (create shortcut)". Within that, you will add your flags/switches as normal.

If you are running a beta version still, you will need to do the following:
1) Go into the Beta2 folder in your game directory
2) Right click the .exe and select "Send to -> Desktop (create shortcut)"
3) Right click the shortcut on your desktop and select "Properties"
4) In the "Start in" box, you should delete the Beta2 from the line. In my examples here, it would read:
Start in: "M:\WITP - Bullwinkle\"

However when I create the shortcut from the Beta2 folder it will read
Start in: "M:\Witp - Bullwinkle\Beta2\"

So remove that Beta2\ from the end.

5) Don't change the "Target:" text box. You want that to have the Beta2\ in there, or else you will not be running the beta version.

Just to clarify, the easiest way to do a new install is go into Windows Explorer, go into the game folder and copy it to a new folder. You only have to run the installer once per machine.
