For Windows 8.1, a confirmed yes.

For Windows 10, we infer that it will. From every report, Windows 10 has excellent backwards compatibility, either directly, or in Compatibility Mode. We don't anticipate any problems in this regard.

(In any event, I plan on purchasing a Windows 10 system this autumn, which I intend to become my new primary development system. If there are any issues, not expecting any, I will be sure to make fixing them my highest priority!)

I just bought an ASUS 8.1, which I upgraded to Windows 10. I loaded my original CS and it worked fine. But when I loaded update 2.0 and then 2.1, the desktop launch screen's buttons for EF, WF, and RS did not work. They just made that static sound, and the game fails to launch. I've run the update from the main launch screen, and I've tried it from this site. Both result in the same. I hope someone can share some insight. And thank you!

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I just took the plunge to W10 on my PC over the weekend, and my existing JTCS 1.04 and 2.02 installs both continue to work.

What does the game log say? Missing C++ distributables are something seen for not being able to launch. See Tech FAQ here: tm.asp?m=3550157

I plan on purchasing a Windows 10 system this autumn

Well, I just got a new 64-bit Windows 10 system and have reinstalled several games successfully. But not JTCS.

I have twice tried a clean install, and this morning simply installed JTCS v1.00 without any patches. I've been running the Win10 compatibility troubleshooter, etc.

What I get is the start-up menu works fine and selecting East Front or West Front works ok through the intros, but then I get a message "east/west front.exe has stopped working." I have gone into the sub-directories and tried running these .exe's using the program compatibility troubleshooter, but I get the same result.

So. Are these .exe's just not executable under 64-bit Win10 or am I missing something? I do have the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package installed, so that's not the issue.

Hello psgndr,

Yes, the game should run under W10 64bit, that's what i've got for instance.

Any helpful hints at the game logs?

Alright, it seems to be fine now. Apparently a reboot was needed? Other apps didn't seem to need a reboot. Maybe this will helps others. OK, onward...

I was having the same problem on a new PC with Windows 10. Selecting any program from the startup menu resulted in "East Front.exe has stopped working." My speakers haven't arrived yet, so I was running the program without an attached audio device. As soon as I plugged in a pair of headphones the problem disappeared, and the game runs fine.
