Launch Problems

Post by dr.hal »

Greetings folks. After years of playing this game, I finally have a technical problem. I've tried to launch the game from both my desktop as well as within the folder and I can see the previews and video but when it comes to launching the game itself, it is a blank screen EXCEPT that the version and date show up... (VERSION 1.7.1124-Dec 25 2014 1259.11) and that's ALL... the rest of the screen is black. If I try to hit any other key nothing happens EXCEPT if I hit the Esc key then the game drops out and I'm back to the launch window (where is say "Play" or Manual, etc.). I've been playing with this install for a while now and I've NO idea what is going wrong!!!!! HELP. Thanks,

Hal

OK, there are only two possibilities that I see. One is that the turn file is somehow bad. The other is that something changed that has so far escaped your attention, whether software (a driver, etc. even a virus) or hardware (a failure of some kind), or switches in the shortcut, etc.

Double check what you can, like your shortcuts. Look at Windows Update in Control Panel to see when the last time is that updates were applied and compare that to your last successful run of the game. Run a virus scan.

Well it is solved thanks! I made a change and I didn't even know it. I loaded a new AE into a separate folder and compared folder to folder and sure enough some data files were moved inadvertently. I must have caught them with the mouse and then moved them....ugh. Thanks for your response anyway... I greatly appreciate it...

I've done that and it's one that I hate especially because if I don't notice it right at the time it's often hard to track down!

Yes I fully agree...that's why I loaded a whole new version of the game, to give a side by side comparison. It worked.... thanks again for the assist. Hal
