Messages are virtually unreadable

Post by aspqrz02 »

Am I the only one who, even on a big screen monitor, simply cannot read the turn related messages because the contrast between the text and the oh so kewl parchment-y background makes it virtually impossible to do so?

Is it actually possible to mod something like a plain white background over that box so that one can actually read the d**n messages? And where is the file that could be modded so I can have a go at it if no-one else can/wil?

I've found reducing resolution helps a lot, I'm currently running TYW (and all the other AGEOD games) at 1440x900 rather than my native 1920x1080.

However the resolution selection in the game set up didn't seem to work so I'm using a display changer (12noon) to automatically adjust my desktop resolution when I launch the game(s).

Actually fiddled around and found a solution that works for all AGEOD games ...

For 30YW go to ...

Thirty Years War>TYW>Graphics>FrontEnd>GUIMessages

... and find the MessagePanel files ... then open them up in a graphics editor and modify them so that the portion where the text appears is (in my case) white (or whatever is readable) ... standard game text on a white background is eminently readable for my aging eyes.

The relevant graphic files are in the same locations for all AGE games and can easily be modified in the same way.

Hooray! Readability jumps from 10% to 100%!!!

you can do it with Gimp for example, it is free software.

Haven't tried GIMP, I used Photostudio, but Paint.net worked as well, and is free also.

The files are .png, so probably even M$ Paint should work.

I don't have an issue but I think some people watching youtube let's plays have complained they have trouble reading messages.
