I agree with Brian Brian. Well done for running a different and interesting Japanese strategy.

As an aside, I appreciate your comments about other commitments making playing against an opponent difficult but you do seem to be able to post pretty often and are often online at similar times to either Mayhemizer or myself (or Orm and Warspite1). Have you considered playing by email in the way we have done? The great thing is, it can be as fast or slow as you like and/or time permits. I'd sure be happy to throw down the gauntlet.

Thanks! I appreciate the time you've both taken to follow and comment on my play.

I'm flattered by the offer of a game and I really wish I could play this wonderful game against another human opponent. However, my work situation makes this impractical. Though, maybe when I retire, hopefully in a decade or so, MWiF and this community will be still be active and I could play such a game then. Honestly, that's a bit depressing thinking I'll have to wait 10-years for such, but my "job" is my "day job" and as much as I love MWiF, it's my hobby. [:(]

3. Jan/Feb 1940. Victory Totals

A winter turn. A short turn lasting 6 impulses with the axis moving first, the allies moving second and each side getting 3 impulses.

Though the turn was short both Germany and Japan increased their victory points by 1 each at the expense of the CW, who lost 2 victory points.

03. Jan/Feb 1940. Antwerp, Belgium.

One of the two victory points that changed hands this turn was Antwerp, Belgium, which was captured by Germany on the first impulse, even though it was rain in the north temperate. At the end of last turn Antwerp was defended by the British 7-4 mot corps and a Belgium 3-4 cavalry corps. This cavalry corps "disappeared" when Belgium surrendered to the Germans leaving the CW 7-4 motorized corps alone in Antwerp. Though raining, the Germans decided that the chance to take Antwerp was just too good to pass up. They did managed to take the city but at the loss of a valuable mil unit. In addition to the mil unit, the Luftwaffe lost two fighter units in the air fight with the CW for ground support.

03. Bay of Bengal. Naval Combat.

The Japanese decided during the allied turn to initiate combat against the RN in the Bay of Bengal. Bad decision. The RN won the search and had enough surprise points to force a surface action. Fortunately for the Japanese, they didn't have enough points left to choose their targets. The IJN heavy cruiser Maya was able to hold off a superior RN cruiser force long enough for the two IJN aircraft carriers Hiyru and Soryu to escape. Though the Maya managed to damage an RN heavy cruiser and force a second to retreat, it was sunk by the superior RN force.

03. Jan/Feb 1940. Birmarck, Marianas, Solomons.

Japans expansion against the British in the South China Sea and the Bay of Bengal is not leaving any resources for Japan to reinforce China (previous two caps) or Truk, Saipan or Kwajaleian in the western Pacific. Though, it will become imperative over the next two or three turns to garrison these islands in defense against the growing US threat to Japan.

03. Jan/Feb 1940. US Entry Options.

At the end of the turn the USA added 1 chit to the Germany/Italy entry pool and two chits to the Japanese entry pool. The US choose the options:

(16) Gift destroyers to the CW and

(4) Intern the French aircraft carrier.

Neither choice resulted to any increase in tension (i.e., no chit was moved from either entry pool to the respective tension pool). The USA choose to substitute a transport for the interned French aircraft carrier.

03. Jan/Feb 1940. Use Oil. USA.

The US chooses not to reorganize 3 aircraft carriers and 2 battleships deployed to Pearl in order to save a point. They'll wait next turn when they can get the most bang out of a oil point to re-organize (i.e., 1.4 or 1.45 worth of stuff for a single point).
