Disabling the creation of new officers but allowing pre existing ones

Post by GaryChildress »

I've created a random scenario using the newdawn3 file. So it incorporates officers. Now I want to create pre defined officer pools for the different regimes. I also want to eliminate the ability to create new officers so that the different regimes may only use officers out of their predetermined pools. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks for any help!

I think there is a rulevar that defines if you can recruit new officers or not. I´ll have to check up on the number of it, but I think it would be found in either the Officer rulevars or the enable/disable ones...

I think rulevar 345 deals with this. If set to -1, i think you won´t be able to recruit new officers. It is located in the Direct Production, Autoreinforce, Officerpool category. (The last one of the rulevar groups)

Hi Ernieschwitz,

Yes, there appears to be a rulevar called "officer cost", but I can't get it to work in game. It says to chose -1/0 for "not buyable", however, I've tried setting it to either -1 or to 0 and neither way seems to prevent the recruiting of new officers. [:(]

Maybe you can point the Stringlist of officers to an empty one? That could do it? Grasping at straws.

OK. Don't ask me how it works but I somehow managed to "disable" recruiting. I went into the "Event" menu, then under "Officers" I clicked on "Initial Regime Settings" and chose 1 and set "TempVar" to 500. I was thinking that this would make recruiting a new officer very expensive, however, it appears to have turned off recruiting instead. Oh well. If it works in the game, it works for me. [8D]

I was just going to say that or something similar.

Event 47 is currently setting the cost of rulevar 345. So you need to edit it there... instead of setting it to tempvar1 set it to -1.
