Nice tunes. [:)]

But calling them "golden oldies" makes me feel ancient. [:D]

Robert, I respectfully have a rebuttal on the Spice Girls. This female singing group was predicated on "looks" only. Their singing talent is marginal, if you listen their voices they are heavily echoed to make them sound terrific. They were beautiful to see, but to me that is all they offered. The public of course just loved them, but musically they were below average to average.

No problem Patrick - each to their own. Having said that I do not really understand your post as to me it's all about the music.

All I care about is the music/singing and what that sounds like. To my ear, these tracks are beautiful (and the voices are more than adequate for the job). But as for:

- who wrote the songs
- who sings them
- were the singers voices doctored in order to make them passable
- were the singers beautiful (and I would also respectfully disagree on that one - only sporty and (perhaps) baby were any sort of lookers)
- was the group a manufactured band

to all the above I am firmly residing in couldn't care less corner as its totally irrelevant to whether the final product is worth listening to or not.

Been listening to Arcade Fire over the last few days. Now onto a great album from 1987

Red - The Communards.

The best track on the album

For a Friend

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOArNfHCKqU

Followed by:

Victims

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5qm12w6Pwc

And finally here is the best Jimmy Sommerville record from his Bronski Beat days, the incredibly sad

Smalltown Boy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xuz94ZIPfJk

Did you know Jimmy Sommerville's partner in the group, Richard Coles, is now a vicar?

Jeff Beck is awesome! Just listened to my favorite from him the other day: THX 138

My favorite of all time though: Metallica S&M The entire album (live with the San Francisco Philharmonic).

Anybody ever hear this? The demo recording of War Pigs.

It was a much more religious themed song prior to the changing of the words into the anti-war song we all know. I like it myself.

Interesting, but I prefer the anti-war version... ratblood just doesn't do it for me [:D]

Yeah, me too. Electric Funeral was also very much anti war.

I know and knew War Pigs is an anti-war song, but growing up I liked it because: 1. Loved the British WWII air raid siren sound in the song, and 2. had a kind of militaristic lyrics and beat to it.

I think with a lot of music, we over-look the intention of the artist and adopt the songs to our own purposes and vision. Kind of like what the 300 Rise of an Empire "War Pigs" remix did with this song. I think its an even better version.
