No, but hopefully soon. Our focus is currently on the skirmish mode though, which we hope to complete for next patch.

If/when you offer a NATO-icon-on-counter unit display alternative -- also given the many new scenarios being produced -- I will seriously reconsider purchasing this game.

This is something I'd very much like to see too - I much prefer playing with "counters", especially if they have some unit stats on them, like the large counters in Commander: Europe at War

Having seen the pictures of counters in the Slitherine forums and reading about 3D World, 3D Tactical, and 2D Tactical maps in the manual I was believing the game could be played with counters instead of animated units... so I purchased.

To my surprise, it appears there are no counter units (NATO or otherwise) in the latest release (1.93)
I should have read these Matrix forums.

For me, the game would be better with counters.

Just like to say that I really like the 3D animations.

Sure the counters might give you more immediate detail but the 3D animations add something different to the game.

But everyone to there own.

I think MTTODD hit it on the head for me. I'm not opposed to the animations but don't seem to get a good visual sense of the battlefield and strategy with the 3D units that counters so easily supply. But no argument here--definitely a personal preference.

Any news on a board war game like 2D mode, with counters (and NATO icons)?

Not yet, they're only half-way there with a 2d map but 3d units.
I did see some nice NATO counters during beta almost a year ago.
I guess they've been put on the back-burner as new campaigns and a skirmish (random) mode is being worked on.

I am an old-school board gamer from the 70s, I still love to play this game with a 3d map and units [;)]

I am an old-school board gamer from the 60s. 2D & counters leave more to my imagination. I find 3D to be less immersive than plain and simple 2D, ironically, and out-of-scale "toy soldiers" obscure the vision in my mind's eye rather than clarify it. Less is more.
