We're still hoping for a day earlier than that. The 24th!

Fingers crossed, of course, as I still haven't seen the installer yet.

Hahaha...

Depending on what time they get in tomorrow, I suspect it will be available around midnight PST. Or shortly after?

You know i've been thinking about finally jumping into PBEM play, never played against another human. I'll probably be up at midnight anyway, insomnia's a bitch sometimes, might as well put the time to use[8D]

Could somebody post up a brief description of how PBEM works. Like "First you do this, then you do that and then you send it off and this happens..." ??

I'm kind of interested in it but would like a hint as to how it works.

Thanks,

Hey man, I'll give it a go! I myself, after 10 years or so of only playing DCG's, and AI only, finally jumped into PBEM, and just can't say enough about it, fan-freakin'-tastic!

Ok, obviously, you would want to post to find an opponent first off, feel free to let them know you are starting out, most guys are more than happy to help you out with any questions and hints on play, etc.

You want to also negotiate any optional rules, myself, it's easy, I play with all on, everything for the full immersion, but some don't like Extreme Assault, or Variable Vis, etc. Make sure you hammer out those details first, to avoid any problems.

Next, you will agree on a scenario, and preferred side.

Depending on who starts first, Side A or Side B, you fire up the game, hit Play Scenario-click on PBEM, then Start New Scenario, and find it. Click on Fog of War if agreed on, local side you agreed on, rules, and make your afore-agreed upon selections, then hit ok.

Depending on side, if you start, you go ahead and play your turn, when you are done and hit the end turn button, you will be prompted for a password, do that, then it will prompt for a save. I usuall will do thusly !!name of opponent_vsname of opponent_short name of scenario_CSME. Like this for instance-!!Mike_vs_Shark_Assad_CSME, then hit save. It's easy to find it in Windows Explorer that way. After that, some zip the file, some don't, your preference on that! Email opponent and send, await the punishment impending, and when you get it back, open game, select resume game, after clicking PBEM, open turn, enter password, either watch the playback or skip, then give them some grief back!!

That's pretty much it in a nutshell, I hope you find it as entertaining as I do!!

I am doing my first ever CS PBEM in my ongoing Adventures in Yemen - 3/7/63 - DAR (no Crossroads) game.

There is a special tension, and fun, playing a truly intelligent opponent for a change. Sorry, HAL! [:'(]

However, I will continue to play, and prefer, A/I play, if for no other reason than that all of the other Dev Team members play, and prefer, PBEM. Guiding HAL through Officer Training School -- it's a dirty job, but somebody's got to do it!
