Mid Level Camera

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Mid Level Camera

Post by KWG »

I've started a campaign as Allies and I've noticed the Mid level recon camera. Has it been in from the start or added in a patch? Will it take from a range of altitudes?

Thanks!

Managing the Air War as Allies vs. as Germans is as
Gone With the Wind vs the opening cartoon.

Oh yes it's a game within a game. As a quick plug for the Torch expansion the new 43 Campaign with additional Air HQs together with the new ability to deactivate ADs makes things much easier to manage after the initial set up.

so as I understand it - the low level cameras is best for the tactical recon - airfields, interdiction, unit spotting, etc. while the high level cameras are best for strategic recon - strat bombing targets

are the mid level cameras a compromise mixture of being able to do both types of recon well?

The data makes no differentiation other than effective and maximum height. I think (rather than know) that the different camera type is more matched to the historic employment of the variants of aircraft that used them so high is strategic (longer range / twin engine) and low is tactical with a choice either way over medium. Remember over 10K you can 'see' into adjacent hexes.

So that would be perfect?

High - 30k
Medium - 24k
Low - 9k

I think low is 12k, and high 36k

I think that that is a reason to stay above 10k, as the ability to see into adjacent hexes broadens the impact of the recon and is therefore a good thing. I agree with whoofe, that 12k seems to work for low level recon.

In bad weather clouds reduce accuracy when you go above them.

I can't wait to have a "poor weather" recon AD that I can toggle on and off at will :D
My mind is simply spinning with possibilities.
