Skeletor vs Fallschirmjager: Blood River 1838

Post by Skeletor »

Zulu scouts have discovered a group of Boers laagered near the Ncome river. 14,000 warriors in 5 regiments are poised to strike at first light.

Did I say we were poised to strike at first light? We're scattered all over the **** veldt!

The uDlambedlu realise they are alone on the east side of the river and can't possibly take the laager themselves. The regiment backs off, taking a few casultys from a small naval cannon inside the laager.

Meanwhile, three veteran regiments rush toward the scene....

14,000 zulu surround my encampment

My rifles only have a range of 250 yards...so all I was able to fire was my 8cm naval gun....there is a pond to one side....so no zulu can come from that area....this means I have less area to cover

Most of the uDlambedlu regiment has managed to get out of sight and has taken only a few casultys.

Soon the other regiments will arive and the attack will begin.

Looks like we've gotten of to a slow start. I was hoping the Boers would come outside the laager where I could kill off a few before making my assault. So far they seem content to just sit and watch hordes of Zulus close in on them.

Maybe its a design problem that if the Boers choose to remain passive the game gets a bit dull. The Zulus really were spread out like this as the battle began.

What do you think Fallshirmjager? Quick action or Historical accuracy?

I didnt read your post before playing the turn

But im gona use my cavlary and try to kill those two isolated groups in the north and prevent a link up over the river

I dont think steel panthers is able to calculate muskets effectivly
At one hex I should be getting 10-15 casulties a shot...but we will see how it works out

I inflicted about 50 casulties this turn but the laager is getting bare

My original startegy was to sit in the laager and mow you down as you made your attack...but I dont know if that will work...so im gona try and keep you split apart with my cavlary

I have mixed feelings on how the Boer weapons work in this scenario.

Playing against the computer before I've been able to cause nearly as many casultys in the uDlambedlu's first attack as happened in the entire actual battle (3000 and most of those werent killed at the laager even though there were lots of attacks). So maybe they're too effective, or maybe the Zulus don't rout easily enough.

One time I even killed 31 Zulus in one shot.

But then you've got 600 men against thousands and thousands of Zulus so I can hardly afford make them less effective.

I don't know, we'll see how this plays out and then I might have to tweak things a little.

One of the problems is SpWaW code

After your first shot...the men "hit the dirt" and then you do 1-2 casulties per shot

The Zulu never took cover...they just kept advancing...so each shot would do about the same number of casulties
I played the comp for a few turns and did 50 in one hit
But I could keep them off and they eventually over powered me...and moving the cavlary out of the encampent was a stupid move in the game...it didnt work well at all
