Fight or flight setting?

Post by GaryChildress »

Is there a setting somewhere in the editor whereby you can set it so that you can adjust the likelihood of a unit retreating. For example a collaborationist militia unit I may want to retreat practically at the first sign of danger. An SS unit I may want to fight to the death before retreating. Is there a setting which will affect this?

Thanks.

Maybe. If you want SFT to retreat there is a place in the SFT subformation type where you can change kill to retreat percentage. That is when a kill is rolled for that unit it will retreat instead. It's under "statistics" in SFT subformations.

But this is not defined in the editor. The player change it while in the game, so your colaborationist militia can be set to fight to death. To obtain the effect you want you can introduce morale modifiers for people groups and SFT´s.

I guess there are two ways you can try to make this work. And they are alluded to here.

As Bombur is saying, in the game you can specify the retreat if the unit takes a certain percentage of losses. This is set by the player during the game and is probably not the option you want for a designed scenario. Especially since the AI will likely choose what it wants.

The other is as LJBurstyn points out. In the SFT Statistics 2 page, near the bottom on the left there are the Kill% and Retreat% elements. The Retreat% should control whether a unit dies or retreats. It sounds like this is what you want.

Also, morale affects how a unit fights as well. This is modified on the Item page, on the right near the top. XpMod and MorMod give extra experience and morale to the item produced. So, in general, units are defaulted to Morale = 50. If MorMod = 20, they will be produced with Morale = 70, while -20 will give Morale = 30. You can use this to make elite units. You can use XpMod to make better trained units. I used these for Marines and paratroopers in my mod.

Just keep in mind the SFType: retreat% kill% combat stats are from the attackers point of view. So if you set them diff for your collaborators it would mean that THEY would score hits differently.

Adjusting their morale (as suggested above) seems the way to go to me if you want them to retreat quicker (by panicking more easy).
