If the Russians are committed to Assad, then I don't see him going away, period. A unified Syria I am very certain is out of the question. Assad will rule over his clan in their area (the coast) and southwards to the Golan Heights and Jordan border (including Damascus).

ISIS will not be defeated unless the correct force application is committed to (I don't see this happening), or better yet until a general agreement is reached with the same Sunni people the US had agreements with in Iraq (until we abandoned them). Negotiated probably to include all the (non-Assad and Kurdish) Sunni areas in Syria + Iraq as a separate nation. Iran+Russia+Assad will not want this, but its something the west should insist on. And then there is the Kurdish state that in my opinion needs to be formed (not suggesting it include any part of Turkey). Turkey will not like this, but they should have thought of this before they were so duplicitous beginning with GW's invasion of Iraq and how they have conducted themselves up to now concerning Syria.
Conflict with the unexpected: two qualities are indispensable; first, an intellect which, even in the midst of this obscurity, is not without some traces of inner light which lead to the truth; second, the courage to follow this faint light. KvC

Just read today the Russians have called up 150,000 reserves. One can only guess what that is all about? If a Russian combat division shows up in Syria---Look Out! Those black flags will be disappearing fast and gee Turkey where do you think they will go? I doubt the Russian army will be PC (politically Correct) as an American army in how it goes about on it's road to victory. If what I'm talking about holds true, it's going to be quick and decisive victory with complete air dominance and a legal right by Assad's invitation to be there. Don't forget the Coalition has no legal right to be striking in Syria. The Coalition blew their opportunity to put the civil war to an end under their terms, they plain out and out did not have the balls to assert themselves and now look like Kiddie Kampers. In the end the Kurds are going to get it stuck up their behind, I pity what's going to happen to them. And Ya! What about that Chinese aircraft carrier off the coast of Syria? What do you think they are going to do if Assad gives the green light for them to do bombing runs? Ya, it could get serious and soon we will have a whole new Middle East folks, western tourists not welcome, unless they convert to Islam.

EXCLUSIVE-Strategika 51: Six Russian fighter jets type Multirole Sukhoi SU - 30 SM have intercepted 4 Israeli McDonnell Douglas F-15's fighter bombers attempting to infiltrate the Syrian coast. The Israeli F 15 warplanes have been flying over Syrian airspace for months and in particular the coast of Latakia, which is now the bridgehead of the Russian forces in Syria.

The Israeli jets would generally follow a fairly complex flight plan and approach Latakia from the sea

On the night of 1 October 02, 2015, six Sukhoi SU-30 Russian SM fighters took off from the Syrian Hmimim airbase in the direction of Cyprus, before changing course and intercepting the four Israeli F-15 fighters off the coast of Syria, that were flying in attack formation.

Surprised by a situation as unexpected and probably not prepared for a dogfight with one of the best Russian multipurpose fighters, Israeli pilots have quickly turned back South at high speed over the Lebanon.

The Lebanese army has officially announced at 2313 Z (local time) that four "enemy aircraft" (Israeli) had crossed the airspace of the Lebanon.

This 'incident' between the Russian and Israeli combat aircraft struck with amazement the command of the Israeli air force, which has estimated that a possible dogfight between F-15 Israelis and the Russian Su-30 would have led to the destruction of the four aircraft Israelis.

Israel has strongly protested to Moscow of the incident but the Russians demanded explanations about the presence of Israeli military aircraft in full Syrian airspace.

This incident indicates that the protection of Syrian airspace is now under the protection of the Russian air weapon. What causes gnashing of teeth in Washington.

The incident has been ignored by major news agencies but relays political and media of Israel in the United States, Europe and in the Arab world will redouble their efforts to demonize the Russian support for the Syrian Government.

Funny, the Russians did not try to turn back Turkey jets from attacking Kurds last night. here's story: http://news.yahoo.com/turkey-launches-o ... 48366.html

But they (Russians) fly against the Israeli jets? Can see why to an extent (near base). Question: Do the Russians have a "No-fly zone" set up in Syria or not?

The 800lbs gorilla in the room remains that ISIS is a US/Israeli proxy army-
Israel’s strategic desire to weaken both Syria and Iraq was again reiterated in 1996 when a study group led by neocon Richard Perle prepared a policy document for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu titled: ‘A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm’. The document states:
“Israel can shape its strategic environment, in cooperation with Turkey and Jordan, by weakening, containing, and even rolling back Syria. This effort can focus on removing Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq — an important Israeli strategic objective in its own right — as a means of foiling Syria’s regional ambitions.”
