march 13
Col. Leach has reached Lighthouse 1. Local contact with the natives made. He will have to make do for now as the
main body is still well out to sea.

March 20
All LSTs clear Lighthouse One and make for safer seas. I think they need one more day to clear the area. Radar set
unloaded, supply is good. Support should debark X-mas island tomorrow. Ill use the same deal, fast transport the men
(as many as I can) and LST the rest. I do not want to wait for the LSIs to begin.

WITP-AE
It means different things to different people with a common interest. Interesting in itself. I find the detail these guys went into putting this together almost ridiculous.
Today at work I grabbed a coffee and dwelt for a moment on the previous couple of turns. I started with the "George". started following links and I was reading about
a Japanese flying circus over Japan in '45. I bet all six of the Japanese aviators shot down over the straights that day are in the game. Ridiculous.*

* I will find out, I penciled their names into my to research (alright,,,,,google) [;)]

Nothing flies from 10th AF. Nothing. The raid is rescheduled for April fools day. All spots on the IJN in the central Pacific are lost on the
30th. My small destroyer force and cruiser SAG remains followed however. No sign of enemy flattops.

Re: forts vs bombardment - they do help but how much depends on the size of the guns or bombs bombarding, plus terrain, plus D/L, plus weather.

The Jintsu and DDs would put up a weak bombardment that level 2 forts would help reduce the effects and level 3 would nearly negate. Add CAs to the equation and you need level 4 forts to negate most of the effects. But nothing (at least below level 8) really is proof against BBs - compared to the 250 - 300 lb. shell of a CA, a 14" gun fires a shell of ~ 1500 lbs. The 18.1" guns on the Yamatos deliver shells over 3000 lbs.[X(]

For aerial bombardment, level 3 forts would help a lot against the 100 kg bombs of fighters or Vals at extended range. Level 4 is needed to do much against 250 kg bombs. Against the 800 kg bombs from Kates/Jills you need good terrain and good karma!

Just wondering if your Lighthouse location is of any use if he knows where it is? Do you intend to have a full fledged air base and garrison?

EDIT: My notes on forts above are for effects on troops and maybe supply dumps- I don't think they apply to aircraft. You should need a higher level base (with revetments) to reduce the effects of bombardment on aircraft.

About the city attack at Paoshan - you got lots of manpower hits and pretty good fire levels at 108K. Those fires will cause damage to some of the industry if they burn on next day - and I am pretty sure they will. I am not sure if numbers of troops has any effect on fire suppression. It takes a really intense fire burning for several days to destroy industry. Did you see the words Fire Storm in any of the text scrolling by?

The bad news is that once Manpower is eliminated it becomes much harder to get fires going on the industry. The good news is that any industry damaged costs 1000 supply for each point repaired, so it is unlikely he will repair it - that makes it as good as destroyed. [:)]
