DPlayX.dll is not loaded

Post by blim3k »

I get the error "DPlayX.dll is not loaded" when starting FCRS on Windows 8.1. The game was installed via Steam, and I do have dplayx.dll located on the computer. Does anyone else have this problem? It does not effect gameplay so far.

Do the videos play at the start of loading? Do you have a DirectX codec loaded?

Yes, the videos play just fine, and dxdiag lists a number of codecs. As far as I can tell, the error is not effecting anything in the game itself, so it could just be an oddity on my system.

Looking closer on my Win& 64bit system that file is found in SysWOW64 folder and appears to be one of their directx files. I would assume this file is in one of the Dx9 or earlier installs. I'll check with Rob this weekend and see what we are using that for in game. My guess would be in the PBEM system or a leftover from the old LAN code. Thanks for reporting. We'll check it out.

Getting this as well. Just did a fresh install and update (Matrix Games version) after upgrading to Windows 10 (64bit).

Don't know if it is related but start new scenario/campaign doesn't open to the correct folder. It opens to "C:\Matrix Games\Flashpoint Campaigns\" leaving me to navigate to Modules etc myself every time. Pretty sure I never needed to do that before.

It worked fine on the same computer when I last tried a few months ago (Win8.1).

Oh and btw, the message pops up just before the main menu appears, and it also pops up when I leave a game and go back to the main menu. Kinda makes me think it's audio related, but the music does play. I probably need to install an older DirectX version to get complete compatibility.

Edit: tried to install the June 2010 DX package but that didn't help.

I would agree that it is audio related since it pops when the main theme and end theme start up to play. I'll pass along the issues to Rob to check out. He has a Win10 setup and can look into what is going on. Sorry for the problems. We hate new OS's when they change or drop function and codex. [:@]

DPlay.dll is actually the library for "DirectXPlay" and is used to support the LAN play option which is currently turned off. I will remove the dependency on that unit entirely in build 2.0.10 coming up shortly and that should fix the problem.

The other error messages - do they appear right before the Staff Diary should be displayed when a scenario first loads? If so, then I have just recently fixed that one too.

Happy days, cheers, Rob C
