So Brendan Rogers gone - Jurgen Klopp the fave to take over. How do you feel about the goings on chez Anfield terje?
I find it somewhat silly. Main reason for his sacking is reportedly poor player purchases (which ofc is true). However LFC has a board that a new player has to be assessed and approved by (manager, board of directors, scouts) which means that that fault should be divided out imo.
On the other side, the team HAS stagnated, but that is hardly very hard to understand. Over the last few seasons they have lost one important player in each field (Carragher, Suarez and Gerrard).
Main issue with the club as of now is striker (LFC needs a striker that scores alot, always have (Rush, Fowler, Owen, Suarez)), and a reliable defender. When they finished PL second, they scored more than anyone, but that does not help when you also have more goals against you than any of the other top half team. Now with Suarez gone, having two goals against means you lose the game.
Will Klopp be the right man for the job? Not sure, he will if he can bring some German machinery-football to the team, and secure a proper striker and a defender. However it seems he is not allowed to buy more players, so....

Great shame Scotland couldn't join the party and make it all four home countries in a finals for the first time since 1958.
But hey, that's 3 out of 4 [:)] So pleased for the Welsh (barring disaster against Andorra of course!) and the Northern Irish.

Okay, who's left?
Good luck to Hungary, Norway and Sweden. It would be great to see the Magyars back in the big time.

this article is pretty good on why we didn't deserve to get to the finals.
The only thing it misses has been the long term malign impact of the Celtic-Rangers duopoly. For a long time that pair pretty much had guarenteed CL football for winning or coming second. A key part of their strategy to ensure that was to buy any half promising player from Hearts/Hibs/Aberdeen/Dundee Utd not to strengthen themselves but to weaken the rest of the league. Few of those players really then developed (Kenny Miller and Derek Riordan come quickly to mind, but there are plenty of others) which has had a long term corrosive effect on the Scotland team and the general level of Scottish players.
Now why NI did so well, even lacking our few remaining advantages (comparatively) is an interesting aside, its possible to see Wales as being propelled by a once every now and then collection of exceptional players but thats not the case for NI.

Ah okay - I suspect its a translation thing. We would use eating humble pie in a different context - hence my confusion.

It is still quite evident.
Humility vs arrogance / pomposity / pompousness / presumptuousness etc etc etc
The journalist who's asking is a vulture anyway. He's adding fuel to the fire... He's possibly expecting a future confrontation between managers = more sordid articles can be written for free
The new Wenger is here, Mourinho, watch your back! You still don't get it? [:)]

The confusion - though I cannot speak for Orm, only myself - is that you have used the term Humble Pie in a way that is wrong - certainly in English.
Humble pie (and the eating of) would be true if:
- Mourinho came to Chelsea and says 'I am the Special One'
- He then proves to be rubbish and so must eat humble pie.
However, he has won more trophies on his own than most English clubs have won in their entire history. He has proven far from rubbish.
- In the papers recently he has said he is the best manager Chelsea has ever had.
That is a statement of fact and nothing to eat humble pie over.

mildy footie related, but more about the importance of proper grammar. Unless of course this is really meant to happen exactly as written?
