I never could figure out how to get out of the air planning phase.
I hit f1 for help and H , no go either.

Its the end phase button on the far right that looks like an arrow pointing right. Or you can hit F12.

F1 gets you out of an Air Directive so you can safely scroll around the map and click things.

'Soft factor' is the colored triangle in the upper left corner of the unit counter. It can be changed to show supplies, ammo, morale, etc. so you can check units status at a glance.
