[NO REPRO B758] OTH radar too acurate

Post by DeSade »

After RCS change few builds ago, #2025 Radar (China OTH-SW Transmitter) pinpoint ships at 800+ nm distance with 100% accuracy.

Before, it correctly gave 20-30 nm uncertainty zone. I think other systems could be affected by this change as well.

RE: OTH radar too acurate

Hi,

I´ve seen some similar occurrences than DeSade. I got a little bit curious when I saw that older soviet-era RWR like the SPO-15 (which are - although very practical - less sophisticated than western RWR) are able to pinpoint the emitting aircraft with absolute precision (without uncertainty-area). I made a test scenario - see attachment. Just run the scenario till the MIG-23 picks up radiation.

Greetings

Phillip

That's strange..... just testing the second save in B758 (functionally equivalent to v1.09 Final) and getting an imprecise detection, as expected:

It's possible that we fixed this on one of the late rounds of tweaks for v1.09.

Anyone else experiencing the same problem with B745 ?

I am not educated enough on radars and detection limitations, but I can put down my observations. The radar with unit #2025 has 1600 nm detection range is detecting the ships at about 800 nm. There is no pinpoint accuracy in the first couple of minutes. There is an uncertainty zone of 70 nm X 200 nm. But within two minutes, all surface unknowns have an uncertainty zones of zero. The radar is able to pinpoint exact position and but not speed or course. What's odd is that no course information is picked up by the radar, but there is no uncertainty zone.

Eventually, China has a enough of a fix to actually launch an attack. Again, I am no radar expert by far. But if you have one of those radars, it makes having an AWACS less of a crisis.

Hi,

Some more information:

After some further testing I encountered some similar behaviour that thewood. I get an uncertainty-area for about 1 second - than the area vanishes and the emitter is pinpointed precisely.

Same problem here; attached is a save from 'Stand Up'. All ESM contacts are localised immediately, with no uncertainty area.

It seems to be just that 2025 radar. As soon as I shut it off, uncertainty zones start showing up. Is it ESM. It seems like the detection is active.
