Speed improvement?

Post by cns180784 »

Hi i'm not going to rant, just an observation i have regarding the apparent speed improvement for v1.09. I'd like to know what the rest of the community think, does the game work faster for you now? for me it doesnt seem any quicker at all- i've just played a very small scenario (Angamos goes the distance) and the FOST ASW Exercise scenario. Was still getting some lag- not game breaking but just seems the same as the previous version, no different.

Are there any settings in the options or elsewhere that i could tweak to get an improvement in speed? and here are my system spes:

8 core (3.5Ghz) AMD Athlon processor
8GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 650 graphics
Windows 7

Please don't start strings with the intent of giving us a hard time.

If there is a speed issue just post a file showing it and we'll do our best to resolve it. I think most will agree you don't have to rake us over the coals to get us to look at stuff

Thanks

Vast improvement for me with this release.

Maybe try process lasso? If you search the forum for it you should find a thread where the speed improvements it provides are discussed.

I was wondering, would it be possible or even beneficial to develop a level of detail model into the engine that scales the calculations that the processor performs according to what the player needs to see versus doing all calculations for every active unit at every moment they are in play? I mean to say, would it possible to zoom quite far out into space and see many more units and get a better strategic level of performance, by limiting the calculations being performed by a given unit? And then by zooming in closer all the various minute details start to be calculated as well. Just wondering if something like this might help to improve game performance for big, global scenarios involving thousands of active units.

View them as a single foe
And so fight on!

It doesn't work like that but definitely appreciate the suggestion.

D honestly approaches speed improvements with every build and in my totally biased opinion he does a great job considering we're constantly adding features and other improvements. Its a very difficult thing to do and his success shows what a good software engineer he is. I'd suggest hiring him at my day job any day of the week.

I agree that Command is running at a much faster speed than in previous versions. I usually run at the 5 sec setting and it moves well even in large scenarios. If a lot of action occurs, I go to normal time which moves at normal time even in large to very large scenarios. Great job developers.

Just come back to playing the FOST: Advanced ASW exercise scenario and it seems to be running pretty well. I picked up some advice in a separate thread on speed which was to disable high fidelity mode which i've done. Just out of interest what is high fidelity mode?

Also to Mike, never meant to give you or anyone a hard time and i can see with the vast majority of people here are reporting improvements with speed, and i see it myself but its just sometimes it is slowing down. I think what happened yesterday when i posted this thread, i may have had other things running.

I'm finding the more i zoom in on the map, the more lag i get. Here's a save for you to have a look at, thanks.

Big speed difference for me. Much faster now, much less lags in big scenarios. Great stuff.

Just come back to playing the FOST advanced ASW exercise and to start with it seemed quicker than before but now after a few minutes in it is laggy as hell. Dont understand why i'm getting this especially as no-one else seems to be. On top of that its a fairly small scenario. Units i have under my command is just 10 ships and 8 aircraft and the only enemy units are (supposedly) 3 submarines and a Tu-95 bear recon A/C. I even turned off high fidelity mode...no idea does anyone know why i'm getting this lag? it just seems a lot worse than in v1.08 even though to start with it does seem quicker, then gets incredibly laggy.

If anyone could be kind enough, please try out my most recent save for the scenario i'm playing included with this post, thanks.

If it works fine and is fast for whoever tries it, then i dont know... it must be something in my settings but what could it possibly be?

Just tried it, works perfectly for me. According to the Diagnostics, the pulse time is 3 to 5 milliseconds.
