USAAF fighter sweep targets Lae. It’s possible a difference in Allied vs Japanese pilot quality (experience) is starting to become a factor in aerial combat with IJA land-based fighters. Given Pillager may be producing more aircraft in Japanese industry than Allied aircraft I'm receiving in my fixed production rates, it seems the most productive method of attrition of Japanese air forces in AE is killing off trained pilots. In one way, this is historical. Looking at it from inside AE, it's likely that many JFB's can produce more planes in Japanese industry than the fixed Allied production/replacement rates provided they (JFB's) are properly operating Jap industry. Central Pacific: 9/03 Sigint entries report intercepted Jap radio transmissions from Wake Island and Roi-Namur. Detected status of the two bases show no visible Japanese forces or activity at either location.

Burma: Detected status of Jap base in Rangoon – 80 aircraft (54 fighters, 26 bombers), no Jap TF, manpower 4(0), resources 21(0), refinery 72(129), light industry 9(32).

Detected status of Jap base in Magwe (after raid below) – 189 aircraft (167 fighters, 16 bombers), no reported airfield damage, oil production 198(103), refinery 96(5), 23 Jap LCU (-1 from last report).

USAAF and RAF bombers hit Magwe airfield in a night raid. No reported damage to Magwe airfield facilities, 5 Japanese planes (2 Ki-45 Nick, 3 Ki-61 Tony) reported destroyed on the ground. Central Pacific: Intercepted Jap radio transmissions from Truk reported in 9/04 Sigint entry. Detected base status of Truk shows no visible Japanese forces or activity.

Burma: Detected status of Jap base in Rangoon – 75 aircraft (59 fighters, 16 bombers), no Jap TF, manpower 4(0), resources 21(0), refinery 72(129), light industry 9(32). Jap bomber planes based in Rangoon appear to be Ki-49 Helen (probable) based on combat replay for AAR of Japanese night bombing strike on Chittagong airfield (below).

Detected status of Jap base in Magwe – 193 aircraft (162 fighters, 22 bombers), oil production 198(103), refinery 96(5), 23 Jap LCU.

Unidentified Jap LCU detected and visible on game map at hex location 56, 43 (E of Cox’s Bazar). This and similar reports indicate Pillager is moving Japanese ground forces into positions into southern areas along the Burma-India border opposite Akyab to Chittagong. Whether the Japanese build-up is offensive or defensive in nature cannot be determined at this time from available information. At the very least, Pillager is aware of an Allied buildup in NE India and is taking measures to (1) disrupt or stop progress of the Allied build-up, and either (2) meet an Allied ground offensive using favorable defensive terrain on the India-Burma border or (3) launch a pre-emptive Japanese ground offensive into NE India with (probably) a limited set of objectives.

Japanese transport intercepted by several US patrol subs operating in a picket line S of Babeldaob between that base and the NW coast of New Guinea. This sub picket line intended to pick up Japanese TF traffic exiting the eastern DEI into the Pacific. Possible Jap ships moving through this area include fuel transport TF from the DEI to Pacific bases. Another possibility exists that Pillager may have Japanese surface naval forces and/or carriers based in the DEI (proximity to fuel sources) – if true, this sea area would be along the likely movement path for entry into Pacific sea areas from the eastern DEI. South Pacific: Current base status of Ndeni – 504K supply and 27K fuel on hand. LCT transporting supply into Ndeni from Luganville sunk after hitting a Jap mine probably laid by an undetected submarine. A minesweeping TF has been dispatched to Ndeni from Noumea.

Current base status of Luganville – 1.51 million supply and 179K fuel on hand. Convoy detachment WP-248C (5 ships) arrives from mainland US with 25K supply and 16K fuel cargo.
