It should say the mine model that hit it.

Type 4 IIRC, so it hit its own mine. LOL

Mishandling of the ordinance I guess, might've not even hit it like proper ships do)

Well it was an IJN CMc on its first mission, so probably still at the default experience levels, whatever they might be. Not great I'm sure. It was many, many turns ago in an AI game, so I wasn't too upset by it.

I was mining one of the small islands south of Yokohama/Yokosuka, within the first 5-6 turns.

At least that one was not operator error. I once managed to lay a minefield right in my own lines of communication (clicked on the wrong hex). Decimated one of my own convoys that way. Oops. [X(]

As Allies, I have hit my own minefields several times in a non-base shallow water hex adjacent to Allied-owned Palembang. Very frustrating. Then I moved some AMc there and some turns later I saw a message saying to the likes of " AMc X traced a path in the minefield".

Thanks for the tip -- before reading this thread I had no idea your own ships could hit your minefields! I am playing against the AI, very early in the game, and I tried this with an AMc, probably in exactly the same spot and it just took one or two turns until I got the message about the path being made through the minefield. Very helpful and reassuring. [:)]
