Scout engaging tanks

The new Cold War turned hot wargame from On Target Simulations, now expanded with the Player's Edition! Choose the NATO or Soviet forces in one of many scenarios or two linked campaigns. No effort was spared to model modern warfare realistically, including armor, infantry, helicopters, air support, artillery, electronic warfare, chemical and nuclear weapons. An innovative new asynchronous turn order means that OODA loops and various effects on C3 are accurately modeled as never before.

Scout engaging tanks

Post by innocent_bystander »

I'm constantly losing scouts because they engage tanks with their .50 cal machine guns... Shouldn't they try to avoid any fight since they are supposed to observe and report? Why on earth would you fire on a tank from 2km with .50 cals...

Yea its an annoyance, OTS have commented they are looking at putting SOP into a future release (2.1) so we players have more control over what fires at who

There is some tweaking in the next update to get this low end scouts scooting more instead of shooting, but Tazak hits it on the head for the final fix.

Scouts without weapons are the best. They don't shoot, so they aren't spotted until the opfor is right on top. And since they aren't being shot at, they will often stay on their assigned observation point until the opfor is adjacent.

This issue is one of the reasons we are looking at having both Recon units and Observation units (new in 2.1) as types in order to better allow the AI to deal with those units that really need to sit and report versus those the fight and report. Toss in some SOP controls and things will be a lot better in those departments.
