Win 7 x64 'Out of Memory' Error

Distant Worlds Universe:
Win7 64bit system, 8gb ram, 1gb vram

Out of memory error occurs on Win7 x64 when games has taken up anywhere between 1.8 and 2.4gb ram. While this game is supposed to be LAA it doesn't seem to let me get anywhere near 4gb.

Edit2. Should mention this is with the distant worlds extended mod - but I sincerely doubt that has anything to do with out of memory errors. Mentioning it for completeness

Figured I'd update this with more up to date info. So I've tried a few things, and the issue seems to have gone away. What was done:

1) Removed XP from dual boot config (not likely to have done much)
2) Removed (dot)NET 4.0 install, and installed 4.6 (didn't seem to do anything)
3) Ran a bunch of windows updates, including updates to (dot)NET stuff ( <-- possibly this one)

Interestingly, in process explorer the 'virtual memory' was approaching the 4gb limit, while the actual private working set was ~2.3gb, so not sure what is going on there. Previously, after loading a few times in a row I'd get OOM (I'm guessing the virtual memory got to the 4gb limit) but after loading about 10 times, I wasn't able to repeat the process anymore.

To verify that there wasn't anything busted with my pc, I found and ran a little utility from windows sysinternals called 'TestLimit' which is LAA, and using it was able to allocate 4030mb in a 32bit process, which proved that there were no issues.

In any case, it seems to have fixed itself. So no further action is required

NOTE: Apparently you can't write (dot)NET with the actual '.' character, it appears that is what causes the forums to complain about not posting 'links, phone numbers or emails'

XNA does not use versions beyond NET 4.0

XNA is very limited. Sadly. It's everything that's wrong with DW In a nutshell.
