Do the Japs wish to fire their AA as well? All shots?

I call Assault for this attack. First unit to die from Axis is TER.

The 40mm's open up. The 4 shots give lowest 1 of 5. 3, 1, 4, 3, 9. It isn't the best of barrages, causing only a few planes to scatter bombs.

6 points added to the attack and 3 to the defence.

The Soviets pull an Ace from the pack. Who do the Japs wish to shatter?

I'll guess at the AA gun as it's the most expensive.

As the Soviets I would have been tempted to move into the swamp hex in Latvia and the swamp hex west of Pskov, and Pskov.

I like to have a weak cheap unit (MIL) in Minsk, just to ZOC and slow down the advance. In MWiF do the Germans get the Minsk SS unit?

1940 Barb is really tough on USSR, especially when occupied some where else...lots of fun for the Germans. I've had the pleasure to be in this situation in Russia as the Germans.

In hindsight, I might have been able to hold off the DoW a bit longer if my forces were arranged differently. I've just realised that with Rumania not aligned until after the DoW, the forces along that border weren't contributing to the garrison strength.

Mind you, deployed forward into southern Poland they would have easily been cut off. Deployed in the north and the south would be unprotected, apart from the option of deploying all the reserves there. I could have had the air units north, which would have helped delay for a bit longer.

Personally, I would not have worried about trying to hold off the German DOW under any circumstance. Getting units into their 'safe' and defensive positions is something I work on ASAP after my various gambits. The cities in the south (incl. Brest-L) are not worth the cost in units to defend...better off behind the Dnieper. However, the north is different for obvious reasons.

M/J 40 Axis 7

No DoW

Germany aligns Finland, on a 3 US gets mad. Once again.

Finland sets up most of their troops to north in Petsamo.

Italy asks Ju88 for lend lease and Germany grants it.

Germany and Japan land, Italy combined.

Italy sends FTR to West Med box 1 and initiates combat there.

I expect CW won't fly their bombers as they haven't done it before.

Axis 3, Allies 6.

Italy chooses boxes 0 and 1. Italy uses 4 points to increase damage to 2D 3A.

Italy targets CP. Who takes 2nd D? Then there are 3A left, Italy decides 2 of them. Will you stay or abort?

D to Jeanne D-arc, plus my A choice, if still around for it. After that, it doesn't really matter. Any surviving will stay.

Axis 3, Allies 2.

France has 2 surprise points and they can reduce Axis damage to NE.

3rd round:

Axis 8, Allies 8.

Where do aborted ship go? Is major port Oran OK?

Edit: Land moves and combat will follow later tonight.
