Air directive query

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Air directive query

Post by cato12 »

Is there any way to create a manual AD then lock it so the AI cant override it.

For example, lets say I want to create an ground attack AD on a single hex yet allow the AI do use all the resources left over to create other AD's as per the auto AD screen.

can this be done?

Also,

Regarding naval AD's, I created a couple of manual naval patrol AD'S for single hexes where my amphib groups were yet on the turn resolution there were still hundreds of auto naval sorties even though I had switched off auto naval patrols for all the air commands.

What am I doin wrong there?

AI can delete existing ADs and there is no way to lock them.

It sounds as reporting bug, when manual naval ADs were adding to auto naval sorties. Should be fixed in future versions.

I take it there's no way that could be added in a patch?

Why not? Just seems to be not so popular request.

I would be very happy if it could be added. in general im happy enough with the auto directives but some turns I want to set a specific target for an AD but still have the AI create the rest of the AD's.

If I create it at the start of the turn the AI will overwrite It and if I create it after the AI has created AD's then there aren't many planes left to fulfil it. Being able to lock an AD would be very helpful, for me at least. [:)]

The best you can do now is have the AI create its ADs first, then go in and adjust the air unit assignments of the AI if they don't leave you with enough a/c for the AD you want to add. A lot of the AI's ADs use auto group assignments so there are few groups usually actually assigned out by the AI and not available.

As per Joel above, that's what I've been doing. At least until I get the air war rules nailed down.

Needs must I guess but would still have liked the option to be there.
