If it can get close to the enemy, it'll do well, but anything with any kind of range will tear it apart.

That's true. The speed of the lighter titans can sometimes offset the limitations on armor they have and provide the needed surprise punch.

well its always a trade off:
more armor or more firepower the korg's bait series is pretty much it as far as armor goes for the lighter titans but i think this is a decent heavy hitting light even with its kinks

I have a dual ac20 design... light titan. The armor's worse, and it doesnt have the axe. Haven't tinkered with it much. Its useful as a bomb. ;)
It fires a salvo, then all the comps get ****** and melt it into exploding... Sorta fun, though a good waste of jocks and money... It works ok as an ambush titan, while my teammates back it up. But it still can't take any sort of punishment. Its basically the opposite of korg's bait designs

Made a light titan that uses Mesons, named it K0rg Killah... its ok, my jock on it sucks too much to use it to its full potential... 2 hvy mesons, 2 light mesons, and armor worthy of a medium tos.

Made a missle titan that is practically a fortress. Has a shield, ECM, Scan5, Jump4, 2 LRM9's, and 2 SRM4's... Packs a punch at long range. It has at least 30 armor in every position. Its only downfall is that it moves slowly... i picked the lightest frame with the + to move checks. Its a Medium titan.

I like the factory-spec Sagitta titan, in the Heavy class. It really takes advantage of GMs. Managed to down a Heavy in 3 salvos. Its only problem is slow movement, which doesn't matter once it has a good sniping position.

I dunno. I got rid of all my stock titans 'cause most of them were too pathetic.

the basic stock titans aren't bad IMO

infact i think a bunch are good

besides how are you gonna get diversity in btls w/o lots of different titans?

Oh, i've got plenty of designs of my own. And I can always merge the stock titans in later on, if feel the urge.

Case in point- Cutthroat-- wtf were they thinking?

suggestion.......rephrase that to what were they thinking and they were probably thinking of a titan for someone who likes that kind of load out (not sitting at my computer ATM so i don't have access to any of the specs)

I'm not looking at it atm either, but I remember that the engine was too small, so you couldn't shoot the gauss rifles and move at the same time... lunchmeat.

Edit:

Maybe if the stock titans were being run by the people who designed them, they might work better than myself, or especialy the AI, can handle 'em. But I still think a lot of them are meant to make life easy on newbies.

The other thing to remember is that a lot of the stock titans are pretty old, and have been through several version changes. Some of them may have worked differently before various tweaks. Others are just meant for specific purposes.

WS will have 30+ titans in each class. Of course these are not perfect. Otherwise players would have no fun building their own design. Thats the fun of TOS. Build a good titan and allocate a jock who can handle it.

Coyote, the only answer I can come up with is you've got a lot to learn about the game. Besides, I don't believe you actually delete the database - great fun your games would be... how many other designs do you have?
The database is not old, it was updated and maintained through all the changes. It's not perfect, but it is not supposed to be. It is supposed to be a collection of designs with a variety of roles that can encompass the life of a squad. They're general designs, with as little playstyle-bias as possible. Players are supposed to retrofit them to their playing style, or simply take some ideas to build their designs from scratch. But it is basically an attempt at a *balanced* collection of titans, so that a common platform can be available for netgames - one that can provide a less experienced player a chance to have a shot at a victory over a vet player.

Some titans are perfectly designed. However, put a jock in it without the right skills and you're toast. A good design with the right jock is a bigger threat than most anything else.

If you've been developing your jocks energy weapon skills to100% and put him/her/it in a gm tos, you may as well eject immediately.

:) True, that.
Which is why I don't like titans with more than two weapon types... two is doable (especially gun/rocket combos) but more than that and your pilot can't reach competitive skill with any of the weapons.

That's only true for low-level jocks. Once they get a little more experienced, they should easily be able to have pretty good scores in three or more weapon types.
