Troops are ashore at Milne Bay. In a rather silly piece of planning I chose an engineer unit with no AV to take this undefended base. Someone is going to have to pick on some likely sons of Nippon enjoying the comforts of Rabual and ship them off to the pleasures of Milne Bay. May '42 has faded into history.
In southern India progress continues slowly at capturing bases. For the time being I'm looking to pick up bases that aren't going to expect the installation of a garrison.

As for the British forces that fled to the south of Bombay.
I do intend completing their destruction. The plan is to trap them where they hide and force their eventual surrender.

Leading Pilots
Not a great deal of aerial action for the last few months so again little change to my leading pilots. Okabe, K shot down a Catalina and joins Komachi on 9 kills. Okano, H was lost to an operational accident to become our first ace to die. Kurihara, M and Matsubara, K from Hiryu move up onto the list.

Points Standing
Over 2000 points gained by Japan during the last month to 150 for the Allies.
The number of Japanese planes lost to operational causes is of concern and growing. 104 lost in the last month alone.
The number of Allied ships lost was bolstered by many small ships being cancelled or lost on the ways with the fall of Bombay. Of significant note.... not a single Japanese ship lost during May.

Thoughts on where I am heading.
Almost 6 months in and I’ll see if I can’t write up some decent thoughts on where I think I am heading.
First and foremost my perimeter has expanded way past my expectations. India is now the centre of attention with Madras and Bombay firmly under Japanese control. The DEI is also well under control although a couple of significant bases still remain under Allied control. There has been limited action in the South Pacific after the fall of Noumea. China has seen steady progress although things have returned to simmering only since the fall of Sian.
Over the course of the next month I expect to see the fall of the following bases.
INDIA
Ahmedabad
Indore
Cochin
Addu
Chittagong or Cox’s Bazar
DEI
Samarinda
Tarakan
AUSTRALIA
Milne Bay
Port Moresby
Horn Island
CHINA
No bases expected to fall during June.
The immediate concern in China is the defence of Tienshui. 1st and 2nd Raiding Regiments are located here with very high experience and morale levels. Between them they have 69 AV dug in behind forts at level 3 in forest terrain. The massive Chinese force ejected from Sian is heading here. The Chinese also have to force a river crossing to make it into the Tienshui hex. The Chinese are being subjected to a daily bombing campaign. That along with low supply and shattered morale, plus low experience, should make for a meagre attacking force. I hope so at least. It could be that the Chinese will be victorious simply by sheer weight of numbers (likely to be in excess of 40 enemy units in this hex soon). Reinforcements in the form of 5th Armoured Car Regiment and 26th Division are but days away. 35th Division is bringing up the rear of the Chinese march and is supported by an Artillery Regiment. 70th Division waits in the wings should there be an attempt at a Chinese break out from Tienshui. My plan here is to close off all the internal hex sides of the Tienshui hex and trap the Chinese. If I do, I am not sure yet on which course of action to pursue; pounding them into oblivion and allowing them to respawn or just let them sit while I focus attention elsewhere in China.
As for my axis of attack I am attempting to make it appear that Changteh will be the next target for a concerted effort. Daily bombardments here are starting to cause 1 or 2 destroyed squads on a daily basis. My actual focus, however, is to gather a strong force at Kweilin and move north along the secondary road through forest and cross the river between Chihkiang and Tuyun. Recon so far reports that this road is not defended. If that continues to be the case I feel that there is a good chance of successfully surprising the garrison at Kweiyang and possibly forcing a quick result here in our favour. At the worst we will cause some mayhem in the rear of the Chinese lines and perhaps cause troop movements in Changteh and Chihkiang which may work in our favour. Recon reports 6 units at 36000 troops and 56 guns at Kweiyang – easily the smallest number of Troops guarding the 4 Chinese bases in this sector.
Elsewhere in China we have 13 enemy units (77000 troops with 322 guns) bottled up at Kukong. It has been a good bomber training location but I do need to keep an eye on this lot in case they attempt to cause trouble in my quiet areas at the rear. There is also a group of 6 Chinese units (16000 troops with 95 guns) dug in 2 hexes away from Kukong and only 2 hexes away from Hengyang.
A single Chinese unit that started out defending Pakhoi is also lose near Liuchow and I am keeping an eye on that one too.
In the north west of China I have left Yenan alone. 12 enemy units here with 47000 troops and 163 guns.
My overall plan in China is to make a break through with the eventual goal of securing Kweiyang and from there drive onto the central plains of China. Tienshui also needs to be secured. Once this is achieved a push toward securing Sining will be considered.
Use of Allied aerial assets in China has been nil. I am wary of any kind of Allied fighters suddenly turning up as China is such a tempting place to allow our bombers to rove without escort.

And what of the Navy.
The Navy
So far I haven’t hooked the up the complete KB. Almost there with Akagi, Shokaku, Zuikaku, Hiryu and Soryu covering the final assault on Port Moresby. The Kakus are due their radar upgrade so I plan on basing KB at Truk and sending one of them at a time to get their upgrades.
The rest of the more important carriers (Kaga, Junyo, Ryujo, Zuiho and Shoho) have been grouped together and are covering the landing of troops into eastern India. This TF has Yamato and Kongo in support.
As for the other battewagons. Ise and Hyuga have been sitting off Bombay and will shortly base themselves here. Fuso and Yamashiro are enroute to support the assault on Addu. Nagato, Mutsu, Hiei and Haruna at Truk. Leaving Kirishima; she is currently based at Singapore.
As for the major warships under construction - their projected completion dates are as follows:
CV Hiyo 31 July 1942
CV Taiho 4 March 1943
CV Unryu 22 May 1943
CV Amagi 25 May 1943
CV Katsuragi 27 July 1943
CV Kasagi 21 October 1943
CV Aso 5 November 1943
CV Ikoma 6 November 1943
CV Shinano HALTED
CVL Ryuho 29 July 1942
CVL Ibuki 15 April 1945
BB Musashi 14 January 1943
