Port Attacks

Post by Cap Mandrake »

What happens to Bettys and Nells during port attacks? Do they drop down to 200 ft for a torpedo run or attack as a level bomber?

They bomb. So they are at whatever altitude you set.

We SHOULD be allowed to do torpedo runs on ships in port, though! It's very hard to sink a ship stuck in port with bombs alone and its how the Japanese did their damage at PH!

The solution to that was.....

Torpedo netting. In real actual ports torpedo netting was often used to make torpedo attacks from aircraft (or submarines) impossible. Particularly after Prien at Scapa Flow, Taranto, and PH.

However, I have no idea at what UV "level" of port there would have been torpedo netting.

But in ports of size <3 these attacks must be allowed.

not so sure

At PH the IJN used especially modified torps for use within that environment because of lack of depth of the port.
I'm not sure whether this modification has ever been repeated, and whether ANY level 1-3 port would have a minimum depth to allow torpedo attacks.

In port of size < 3, ships can't be disbanded, so there are no ships in ports, only TF unloading "off" it. In this case, Nell and Betties use torpedoes in 'Naval Attack'. If they attack the port, they bomb the supplies and piers and so use bombs.
