Differing versions

Post by sprior »

As my v2.30 install always breaks (yes I posted a bug report but it was ignored...) I'm forced to play v2.20. Question: Can a player with v2.20 successfully PBEM with someone playing 2.30 or MUST they both be at the same version?

Hi Sprior,

Due to an opponent's abject laziness, we played 8 or 9 turns with the discrepancy you mentioned. There were no observable anomalies on either side, though I can't say whether this remains true over longer periods. Of course, the changes introduced in 2.3 were not available to him until he upgraded.

If the Japanese player is using an older version..then the battle results will reflect the "weighting" of the earlier version (eg., land based level bombers will be less effective against ships). You may have problems with the combat replays being different between the two versions. In one PBEM game...we had problems about 5 or 6 turns after changing to v 2.30...even had to go back to 2.20 for one turn to open a game turn. Now it seems to be working OK.
