Question of the Day?

Post by Lrfss »

Hi All:

Have any of you determined the criteria in which the AI will go through in deciding which A/C unit is first to be upgraded?

I know one is that the unit must be within range of Noumea or Brisbane to start off with. I do also know that it is not always the same units in order as well.

So is it like:

A) within range to the big N or B bases

B) Number of A/C @ Max for unit

C) Experiance

D) Morale

E) Fatigue

F) ?

Seems to me it might be somewhat or in part in that order?

Looked for this question all over and have not found it, so here we go!

I would say the most important factor is the squadron's database entry number (use the editor). The squadron with the lowest entry number will always be considered first by the upgrade routine and will upgrade if the other criteria (available a/c in pool, range from Brisbane/Noumea/Truk, etc) are met.

Example, the 35th FS (P-39s) has the lowest d/b entry number (706) of all the SWPAC P-39 squadrons. If the other criteria are met, it will be the first one to upgrade to P-38s.

I have in my current game a sub-part of VF-3, that ended in Townscille after a bloody CV battle, stayed there and upgraded to F4F-4. It has 6 planes. Another sub-part exists with F4F-3.

I haven't checked the database numbers yet, but in my games the 67th is always the first squadron to get the P-38...

Hi Guys!

I think "Drongo" may be correct.

I have had the 67th FS upgrade prior to the 35th in one game and the 35th prior in one other. I don't recall the location of the unit upgrade though as to if they both were in range, etc.

Of course another potential question would be do both the new A/C and the old A/C unit have to be within transfer range of the Big N or B? No doubt the '38 has a greater transfer range.

Lrfss,

I'm fairly sure it is only the transfer range of the aircraft you are upgrading to (ie the P-38). In most games I play, the SOPAC P-39Ds will be in the Solomons while the SWPAC ones will be in New Guinea. Without the transfer range of the P-38G being used, none of the squadrons would upgrade unless brought back closer to Noumea/Brisbane.

Madflava13,
The 67th should be the first of the SOPAC P-39D squadrons to be "considered" for upgrade. The 35th should be the first considered for the SWPAC P-39Ds.

The 67th does have a lower database entry number than the 35th in the scenarios I've looked at, so in theory it should always be considered first overall. However, there are a lot of variables in play during a game, not least the fact that the 67th starts with P-400s and first has to upgrade to P-39Ds (which have a very short transfer range) before they can go to P-38Gs.

The only reliable rule of thumb (IMO) is that if 2 P-39D squadrons both meet all the upgrade conditions at the same time, the squadron with the lower d/b entry number will be selected.

Hi Drongo!

Sounds like that's it to me for lack of anything better to come up with that makes sense!

Thx
