How do I get a serial # for a steam purchase?

Thanks zakk, by the way, just was given a steam key for a game, do I just go into steam and look for the game? Not sure how to install the game

and put key into box, as steam knows what key is for what game and will activate it for you, good luck[;)]

Our latest releases on Steam now come with a serial number you can register back to our site to show you own the game. This can't be retrofitted though to older releases.

You could try and get a refund from Steam and then buy it again here and get the serial number for Steam.

Valve will, upon request via help.steampowered.com, issue a refund for any title that is requested within 14 days of purchase and has been played for less than 2 hours. Even if you fall outside of the refund rules we've described, you can submit a request and we'll take a look at it.
