Divided Ground Compatibility

Post by Big Ivan »

Somewhere it was stated that to old DG Scenarios are not compatible with the new CSME.

I'm Ok with that but,

How about the maps before I start copying over?

I'm also assuming the org files will not transfer.

Thanks

I would wage the maps should convert pretty much as-is, while ORG and SCN files definitively not at all for underlying data changes. Yet, that is not a bad starting point, as creating a map from scratch is often the most time consuming task.

Let me know how it goes, should you try it!

Edit: I opened a few DG maps with my now current CS:ME 1.01 Map Editor. No issues found. Only tried a few of them, both Med and Des though. So far so good?

Thanks Crossroads.[;)]

I'll give it a go with my 1.00 editor sometime today.

Conversion seems to work fine. Every terrain feature in its place with different looking trees due to different graphics but all else looks OK.

Thanks again.

That's what I expected to see as well. Thanks for the heads-up John!

It's really good to know that we've managed to preserve backward compatibility with pre-JTCS 2.00 era maps at least (if maybe not the other data).

Funny you should mention JTCS... A desert map from West Front:

Crossroads,

Interesting. I couldn't get a JTCS Med map to open in CSME [:(] but I got a Med map from Divided Ground to open in CSME![:)]

I haven't tried a JTCS Desert Map in CSME but looks like you got that going OK.

I agree in that there seems to be some backward compatibility between the old DG and new CSME with map files.

At any rate all good to know going forward.

I tried opening a few more WF Desert maps, not a 100% success rate but a few of them opened at least. Haven't tried any WF Mediterranean maps yet, but it is these two map types and them only CS that Middle East supports.

DG maps of Med and Des type (and there aren't any other types IIRC) should all work out OK.

I will check at some stage which if any terrain tile categories with CS Middle East Map Editor were recycled into new types.
