grand encirclement DC3 V Wite?

Post by mantrain »

For those familiar with the old Wite threads, there was the "Lvov pocket," and various other grand encirclement used to dispose of entire multiple army groups. Anyone have any such success so for with DC3 like that?

the biggest pocket yet i've seen is this one, with 30 odd counters taken in 3 pockets by rjh1971 in a test play, was some great moves tbh, far better than i have done, so no shares from me as i'm happy if i get 5 or 6 if that, then some break out as well[:D]

wait for some AAR's or do some, then everyone will see a master plan or not, if me it's more than likely not[X(][:D][;)]

I am not familiar with WITE version on the Lvov pocket, but I routinely pocket 5 armies during the first 4-5 turns with my PGs from Lublin meeting the Romanians in Proskurow. But it is not like this guarantees a "win" for AGS.

Keep in mind that this aggressive play does expose your forces to suicide attacks because their offensive stance gives their units a combat bonus on the attack and the shock bonus the Germans have only applies to the Soviets on the defensive. The more cautious AI might not punish you this for it so much, but a human certainly will take advantage of the stances of these units- of course, this is assuming you got activations on your armies, which is not a sure thing. Still, it's a risk.

There's nothing like the Lvov pocket, though- it takes longer for that one to develop and the Soviets have a chance to do something if they activate.

Well thanks zakblood for the compliment [&o][&o] but I'm sure there are players with openings far better than mine.

It's not likely that the Soviets may have their armies activated in the first turn, they can also be only half activated (70 AP) instead of 100 AP for full activation. If no activation is achieved then they have 40 AP. But once they have received their reinforces I agree you have to be very careful not to overextend the German advance.

I just started a new game and was not able to repeat the moves shown in the screenshot above.

Glad to hear it rjh1971. I have been getting some small encirclements but I believe WiTE has skewed my encirclement meter. I keep looking for the knock out blow and it isn't there.

Here is a screenshot of my game against the AI.
Normal difficulty.
I could not take Kaunas on the first turn but managed to enter Grodno.

Casualties rate were 6 to 1, this rate will improve in the 2nd turn, from my experience you need to keep this rate 10 to 1 to beat the AI.
