Luck or stupid AI?

VR designs has been reinforced with designer Cameron Harris and the result is a revolutionary new operational war game 'Barbarossa' that plays like none other. It blends an advanced counter pushing engine with deep narrative, people management and in-depth semi-randomized decision systems.

see how long you keep it now, as is that your main target? or do you still need Moscow? by the end of jan / feb 42?

great play all the same[&o][&o][&o]

a race to one place is a risky move as i see some wide open spaces in your lines of supply now and plenty of Russians in your rear, only takes a good push in winter to break out and you loose supply and most of your movement, will be good to see if you are the first to Victory, look forward to seeing the ending and how you go on, a AAR would be great, same as your metric results, remember please post you're pdf file once you have finished, so all can see how you did it[&o][&o][&o]

the problem with Hitler, is as soon as you do one thing, he then wants something else, so may end up asking for something else[:D][;)]

well you have done a lot better than me, then again im the worst layer tbh, so no big complement in that, but the beta testers as a whole were some very good players, i was the worst by a long way so would love to see how you do, so please keep posting so we all can see how you get on, bed time for me now, so may see the rest tomorrow, good luck[&o][&o][&o]

Hi NotOneStepBack,

Well done!

However as Zak has pointed out you're in a very precarious position and holding Leningrad is looking like a man sized challenge.

4th Panzergruppe is blowing in the breeze there.

We'd appreciate it if you could let us know how things progress as we're interested to see how the AI handles the situation from this point onwards.

With regards to Finland you'll notice some big white 'S' on the map. That's 'S' for surrender if a Soviet unit reaches them and threatens Helsinki.

Normal AI level?

Cheers,
Cameron

Will do. I'm rushing the 18th army to support them. It is on normal difficulty. It seems like it the AI becomes focused on certain points and I simply go around them.

August 21, and I've kept Leningrad and the rail that leads to it open. Kiev fell. The AI is being stubborn as hell at the centre, still fighting towards Smolensk.

That's not too much of a surprise- most of the reinforcement armies go to that zone, particularly early on.

I am surprised that 4 Panzergruppe isnt OOS because that truck line from Riga to Narva is about 15 hexes. I think that to maintain the position, either trucks will need to be stripped from other theaters or that the rail repair dudes will need to work overtime (again at the cost of other theaters.) It will be interesting to see what happens in a few turns, because I do see a whole bunch of point where the entire panzergruppen can be cut off. Which by the way, has happened to me many times as well, so far playing the game. ;)

This is my first full game, I've been pretty reckless in general just to see if the AI can cope. I moved the FSB in the north, and I think I'm gonna hold it.

You say it's your first play? Looking pretty darn good. Of course, if you're anything like I am, I always seem to have beginner's luck and do my best on my first play, which I never seem able to quite duplicate on replay ;) At any rate, I finally have time to play DC:B myself starting today. I'll start as paranoid-in-chief Stalin just to see how the German AI plays out. I hope you keep us posted on your drive as autumn unfolds.

from a look at your shots, you are doing as well or as anyone so far has done and got so far and in some way better than i've seen, if you can keep it up you have a better chance than i've ever had in 20/30 plays, if i can be cheeky i'd love a save to be able to see fully how you're doing, pm if you'd like, or not it doesn't matter, but you skill is way better than mine, i've always commented on my lack of skill, i'm told i am a good tester of games, but as a player i'm average at best, as the skills needed to test are always a good to high ability to play, just for a eye for looking and finding stuff, so to be able to see how and play on from some a good point would better my understand of maybe why i's such a average player, maybe you take more risks than me? or leave the flanks more open, i'm uber careful and i've been almost wiped out a few times and lost more than a few HQ's as the Germans[&o][&o][&o]

tt.asp?forumid=1560

AAR link above if wanted ^^

thanks all the same for the screenshot and comments, looking really good and would love you to do a AAR in the section to help maybe not just me but others as well, would be the first and really helpful if you have the time, doesn't have to be this play, or today, any time no rush[&o][&o][&o]

your knowledge of the front is very high btw

September 10th

I had a mud turn and switched to defensive posture, put the luftwaffe to support AGN 4th PGz gruppe and moved the siege artillery to Leningrad. No attacks on AGN at all.
