[RESOLVED] Windows cannot find '\update.exe'

Because I was having an issue with the "Check for update" button not working after the 1.09 patch was installed, I decided to install from scratch and executed the following steps:

1) Ran CommandModernAirNavalOperations-SetupRelese-V1.00.exe (the original file I downloaded after purchasing)
2) Started game to ensure it worked.
3) Ran CommandMANO-CommandNI-SetupRelease-v109.exe. I only entered the license key for Command MANO since I don't have an NI license (yet).
4) Started game to ensure it worked
5) Ran CommandMAN0-CommandNI-UpdateComp-v10901.exe
6) Started the game to ensure it worked
7) Clicked "Check for Update" button and get a message that says "Windows cannot find '\update.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."


I had a few questions:
1) Is there a fix for the '\update.exe' issue in step #7? I am running Windows 10. There is a file called update.exe in the CWOTY directory with size 484,192. If I run that file directly, it executes the update process. I read in another post that I'm not supposed to run this directly, however.
2) Can I uninstall the "Command Modern Air Naval Operations" application since "Command Wargame of the Year Edition" is now installed and appears to have both games?
3) Can I start at Step 3 instead of Step 1 if I need to start over in the future? (I had not paid attention to the V1.09 filename until I wrote this - I looks like a full install rather than a patch).

Please do the following:
1. Delete your CMANO folders and desktop icons.
2. Download the file attached (CMANO_X64_Uninstall.zip) and unzip it.
3. Run the extracted file (CMANO_X64_Uninstall.reg) and allow the "program" to delete/edit the game Windows registry keys.
4. Download the game from the link below:

5. Once you have downloaded the file please unzip it. Run the extracted file to install the game.
6. Run the game and check the issue is persisting
7. If it's not persisting download and install the update from the link below:
http://ftp.us.matrixgames.com/pub/Comma ... v10901.zip
8.Unzip the downloaded file. Run the extracted file to update the game.
9. Check if the update is now working.

Thanks for looking at this!

I followed your suggested steps 1-5 below.

For step 6, I was able to start the game and it worked correctly. I then stopped the game and restarted the launcher from the
desktop shortcut. In the launcher, I clicked the "Check for Update" button. When I pressed it I got the same "Windows cannot
find '\update.exe' dialog box.

I went off script and executed steps 7-9 (despite the issue in step 6) to see if the patch fixed the issue. I was able
to start the game successfully. After stopping the game, I restarted the launcher. When I clicked the "Check for Update" button,
it appeared to work. It said something about having to update the updater. It did that and a new updater window appeared. I told
it to check for updates and a window popped up that said I had the latest version and another window popped up that started
downloading version 1.08 which did not seem right so I cancelled it. Now when I click the "Check for Update" button, I
the popup to authorize the TrueUpdate app (as before but I didn't mention this) and after approving that a "Runtime Error!" window with the path of the update.exe
and the message "abnormal program termination".

What should I try next?

Yes, step 6 shouldn't be there, as the issue with the update was solved by CommandMANO-CommandNI-UpdateComp-v10901.zip. My bad. My apologies.

I've just tested now steps 1-9 (jumping Step 6) and the update feature is working correctly with me. Once I click on the update button, the updater will be updated.
As soon as it's the update program is updated, it will verify if there's any newer version for the game, and in this case it will find none, as this is the last official update.
In your case it seems it wants to update to 1.08...[&:]

If you are receiving a "Runtime Error!" message error, then probably something, maybe an anti-virus, is interfering with the update feature and corrupting it.
I suggest you to install CommandMANO-CommandNI-UpdateComp-v10901.exe once again.
Just to be sure that none of your Internet security programs aren't interfering, please disable temporarily all of them while installing the CommandMANO-CommandNI-UpdateComp-v10901.exe.
After having installed it, run the game and check that you are running Build 757.10.
If that's the case, exit the game and press the update button. Please let your Internet security programs remain disabled until it finished all the verification processes.

I did exactly what you did (executed all steps except for 6) and everything works fine now. When I click the "Check for update" button, it now says that I am running the most current version as expected.

(Running Windows 8.1 - 64 bit)
I had the update.exe error and ignoring stept 1-6 downloaded the patch in step 7 and installed it.
The update feature in the main game menu is now working and reporting that I have the latest version.
