22nd June 1941
Army Group South

Next up the 299th Infantry Division from the army reserve joins forces with the 75th to attack the 135th Rifle Division.

von Rundstedt then brings the 14th Panzer Division up to attack the Soviet 5th Army HQ in conjunction with the 9th Infantry.

9th Panzer is then ordered to join the 14th to try and at least threaten the formation of a pocket by turning directly south against the 41st Tank Division.

These units are now ridiculously exposed. von Rundstedt orders help from the north and the 215th Motorised division is targeted by 6th Army's 75th and 298th Infantry Divisions. The Soviet unit retreats.

1st Panzer Gruppe and 6th Army then combine for an attack on the 35th Tank Division, followed by an attack against the 19th Tank Division. von Rundstedt does not like mixing up Armies (he suspects there are penalties attached) but his commanders have made a right pigs ear of this front and needs must....

The attack was a success and two Soviet divisions are now surrounded. von Rundstedt hopes that if they cannot retreat they are eliminated.. von Rundstedt is about to find out.

The 9th Panzer now has assistance from the 25th Motorised... phew.

Moreover General von Kleist can get a couple of powerful units against the surrounded Soviets.

Well that was a long combat. The number above 'Attack out of AP' is 11. I do not know what this means but I have never seen it that high!

Sadly the Germans seemed to have taken a bit of a pasting - and both Soviet units remain in situ [:(]

1st Panzer Gruppe's last attack comes via 11th Panzer, the SS Viking Division and the 57th Infantry. These units are ordered to attack the 80th and 141st Rifle Divisions.

With the Finns and the Romanians locked, the last army to move and fight is General Stulpnagel's 17th. I see the Mountain unit does not have the correct NATO symbol? Why is that?

Anyway.....

There are two Soviet cavalry divisions that are begging to be attacked. Two divisions from IV Corps and the 101st Light Infantry Division combine for this attack, which sees the Soviets pushed back. The retreating cavalry are then harried further while withdrawing.

The final attack of the turn is that against Przemysl and, in a filip for von Rundstedt, the Soviets are ejected from the former World War I fortress.

So then, with the first German turn done I will next go through the remaining tutorials. There are quite a few questions leading from that turn - and in particular I need to make sure I understand supply and logistics before pressing the 'next turn' button!

I have no idea what to expect in terms of the Soviet ability to counter-attack either so much to look forward to [:)]

Concerning the event of your post #126 (vs 42INF), was it not possible to move a German unit into the hex adjacent to 4A? See my post #122 (last sentence).

Interesting... I wonder why the Finns are locked? I haven't seen that on the first turn yet....?

Finland

Field Marshal Mannerheim orders an all out attack into the Karelian Isthmus. The Soviet 27th Border Division is set upon by the Finnish 4th, 7th and 19th Divisions, and the Soviet unit is forced back. Two of the Finnish divisions attack a second time - but do not advance as there are a number of Soviet divisions waiting to counter-attack.

Further north I am also cautious - and not helped by rubbish mouse and finger control meaning that one Finnish division ended up heading to Sweden rather than the USSR....

After I took the earlier screenshot I decided on a more forward position for the Finns north of Lake Ladoga.

Following the completion of the turn, I have gone back to the classroom to gain some more knowledge.

The supply system is explained very well.

As per the picture below, each Panzer Gruppe has a supply pipeline (the numbers on the trains or trucks confirm which Panzer Gruppe the pipeline is for).

The Main depots are fixed. The fuel is sent to the Panzer HQ via train and truck. Between the main depot (Main) and the Forward Supply Base (FSB) the supply runs via train. From the FSB to the HQ trucks are required. No more than 10 trucks 300km should be used for effective transportation. The movement of the FSB's is via reports - presumably as and when applicable e.g. key cities / rail junctions are captured.

Green denotes everything is working as it should. The Green colour changes to white for a couple of turns after the FSB is relocated.

The second Logistics tutorial advised that HQ should keep to the road network!!

Movement of FSBs is by decision not report. You decide when to move the FSB. Make sure you save up on fuel at the front before you move an FSB....

If Goring is doing his job, the one that he accomplished at the outset per report, and then the one you paid PP points for him to do for the first two weeks...then how can the Russians have any assets to attack Hungary from the air?...and...why would they?

Is the tutorial wrong then? The tutorial shows going into the report tab and being able to move if there is an option available.

Yes that's what I meant. But you still get to decide when to move it. Just because it's available to move doesn't mean you have to move it that turn.
