HQ Units

Post by basilstaghare »

Figuring how to best use the special HQ units that you start with in the campaign...I assume you want these in your army stacks (I'm playing Austria)....is it beneficial to leave in the army stack or assign to a division or does it matter? I would guess you would leave detached but within the army stack and not assign to a division??? Thanks.

Just like in other AGEOD games the HQ unit is a support unit. It conveys certain bonuses and other helpful attributes to the commander of the stack it is in and to all the units within the stack. Any subordinate units directly attached within the HQ icon itself can be used by a capable commander during combat as reserves to help in the fight.

Leaving an HQ unit with say the Army HQ might not always be the best idea due to an Army HQ never initiating combat on it's own. An Army HQ will support Corps and Divisions in it's area if they are already engaged. So moving an HQ unit in with a Corps or a Division that has a capable commander is probably the better option as those units will need the bonuses the HQ unit provides.

Hope that helps you some.

Thanks. If you attach it to a division within the corps, will that eliminate its bonuses?

It shouldn't. The bonuses should still convey to the entire stack regardless of the HQ being embedded into a division.
