I assume that FDB units act like a HQ and it is the attached construction units that do the actual repairs?

If so this would explain how starting the campaign with 0 fuel does not seem to impact their performance.

No idea but they don't need fuel and they always have 16 MPs so I don't care[:)]

Since 1.08.05 you can have less MP if you remove some construction units from FBD unit (luckily it's possible to add them back now). So they "do the actual repairs" in the form of granting MP to the parent unit.

Anyway, pioneer units are combat engineers, not construction units and are never part of FBD.

Question. If I add more construction RR repair units to them, will they be able to repair more hexes per turn? Will they get more MPs? Or there isnt any effect?

No, 16 is the upper limit. We don't want FBDs with 50 MP zap to Moscow in three weeks [:)]

Agreed, but then there isnt any point in attaching more RR repair units to them, right?

I think FBD 5 arriving in 1942 is a little understrength in repair units and achieves only 12 MP, so needs some beefing up. There may be times when construction units will be understrength and your RRV may drop so you'll have to add some more to keep going with the same speed. During some parts of the war you may also decide that for a while you need those construction units to dig forts and take them from FBDs (when on defensive for example). But later you will have to resume repair. Now you can decide.

@morvael: thanks for tips in re FBD management. Who knew? Not me, for sure. (Never tried to add/delete FBD CBs.) Well, kind of thing that keeps me playing.

Before 1.08.05 it was possible to detach CB from FBD, but not attach them back. So most people were afraid of touching them. On the other hand if you knew how it worked, and kept 1-2 CBs inside (to have RRV>0), you still had 16 MP for rail repair. So it was possible to set FBD's and its attached 1-2 CBs TOEs to 50% and thus have a lot of spare manpower (FBD alone uses 20k) and extra construction units. This exploit was removed.

Tried adding CBs to FDB and failed, but noted that there was plenty of CBs anyway.

FDBs get it done as is; just wondering why can't add, or how to add.

Using latest beta now, but ? when feature checked; will check again.

If FBD is assigned to O.K.H. then you must have some free CB in O.K.H. (and not on the map, recall them if they are on the map due to automated repair).

Assignment works only using ATTACH button inside FBD unit details window.

You can try FBD 3 on turn 1 of 1941-45 Campaign scenario. There is one CB to be attached.

and indeed "assignment" works when CB is available in HQ (Army, GHQ, etc.)... thanks (OCD quieted.)

now test if enough CBs assigned is if FBD gets 16 points per turn? or what?

16 MP is max so don't assign too many. Partially also TOE% of FBD itself impacts MP so keep it at maxtoe 100

Yes, in my current GC one of my FDBs is down to 15MPs, as some of its CBs attached are not at 100% TOE (some are at 90 or 95%), due to losses (no idea why). I will put it at refit status to see if that makes their attached CBs go up to 100& TOE again.
