Do I have to micromanage all the building and recruiting or can I leave it to the AI and just move my troops?
Will the recruitments be done automatically for example every 4 turns?

There are certain units you receive at different times that are scripted, but you build the majority of your units. You can have the AI buy replacements for your units if you wish, but the AI will not purchase units for you.
