Map Scrolling

Post by berto »

Depending on your system and setup, and especially with the new Options > Counter Stats feature toggled ON, from time to time you may or may not experience map scrolling slowdowns. Displaying on-counter unit stats (and thermos and ...) is computationally expensive. There is a lot going on under the hood!

We observe/suggest:

[*]The problem is worse the larger the scenario, the more the displayed units.
[*]To reduce scrolling, consider playing at the zoom-out modes.
[*]With Options > Auto Scroll toggled OFF, using the sidebar window controls achieves faster scrolling.
[*]Turning off Counter Stats speeds up scrolling.
[*]Turning off on-map thermos speeds up scrolling.
[*]Use the Jump Map! (be sure to employ the J hot key)

I find that with Options > Auto Scroll toggled OFF, using standard window sidebar controls to scroll around the map, map scrolling is actually faster that way.

But anyway, you have plenty of options, in case this issue impacts you. (For most of us on the Dev Team, it didn't. Just for some, on a few systems and setups.)

Incidentally, I was one who had some issues with Stats + Thermos ON settings, on large maps, with my i5 quad-core 3.8 GHz W10 desktop, while none with my old i3 Atom 1.33 GHz W7 laptop. Go figure.

I've have had occasional display driver issues with my W10 though:

But should you observe any issues keep us posted, and try one of the several work-arounds Berto posted above!

Edit: Auto Scroll OFF solved this for my W10 too. No issues whatsoever when scrolling using the sidebars. Only with Auto Scoll enabled the map edge scrolling slows down with the largest scenarios.
