[FIXED DB v442] A-26s running out of fuel in 1950

Post by JPFisher55 »

I am playing this Korean War scenario in 1950 before aerial refueling. Yet, several of my A-26 have run out of fuel.
I don't understand why since I did nothing to try to extend them beyond normal. Shouldn't they rtb when bingo fuel to prevent running dry.
Attached game save.

Mike, I noticed some behavior that might explain the issue with the A-26s. Near the airbase on the bottom BS-11 is on a land patrol mission. Since the patrol zone contains hostile targets, the A-26 attacks, going into offensive engagement mode, which causes it to travel at min altitude even though it is some distance from the target. Maybe this excess fuel expenditure cause an fuel issue later that the AI does not anticipate.

I ran into the same thing in the same scenario. (Fall of Seoul, 1950 is great by the way!)

I believe it is down to the fuel consumption numbers. The entry for the A-26C (CWDB Build 440, #396) is included below. As a test, with a fully fueled A-26C at 20 feet and cruise power I get 4.7 kg/ minute burn rate and about 2 hours endurance. Selecting military power at that altitude gives me 144.5 kg/minute burn rate and about seven minutes of endurance. :) The few minutes spent making runs on the target at full power are draining them dry.

I would have expected no more than 30.6 kg/minute at sea level based solely on the thrust x SFC given in the database. I know the model used by the sim engine is more complicated than that but I still can't make the math work to get me to 144.5 kg/min.

Most other piston engine aircraft in the database seem to be in the same boat with very high consumption at military power. I hate to report something without a more definite description of the problem but all I know for certain is that it doesn't seem right. I'll include more later if anything occurs to me but for now I am at a loss.
