900+ German AFV lost in 1 week----at that rate German armored forces will be decimated by the end of winter.
I would like.... it's the number of german AFV involved in the main fights [;)]

The Great Patriotic War (STE78 vs 821bobo)

Post by STEF78 »

Turn 29, 1st january 1942

New year, the blizzard is now less harsh for the germans. They recover somme firepower

Image

New year means also new ratios for guards promotion

Image

And above all time to evaluate our respective performance in december 1941

On the bad side:
- I prove to be unable to realize a single encirclement
- The german was able to resist at the places he decided:
---> North of Ilmen with the finns
---> In front of Kaluga
---> In the Stalino area where I had to face multiple Pzd units

On the other side:
- I was able to create a reasonable buffer in front of Moscow
- I got a lot of guards units
- I have shorten the front and will be able to spare at least 2 armies for the coming spring

The german resistance in the South was really impresssive. I wonder if it was Worth the cost in terms of losses.

Now let's see what january will look like

Turn 30, 8th january 1942

Progress is on from Seliger lake to Kursk. I'm stuck in the north and fights are heavy in the South. I'm creating a bulge around Kharkov....

German units in Stalino-Gorlovka are becoming a tempting prey, but they are a hard nut!

Image

Except in Gorlovka, I was able to move Pzd stacks

Turn 31, 15th january 1942

In front of Moscow, I keep my momentum

Image

Same situation in the Briansk area

Image

In the South, 2 Cav corps are isolated...

Image

I try a pincer to free them. The northern one is short, but the southern one succeeds! And Bobo should begin to sing "should I stay or should I go"

uhuh, as uncle Mick would say [;)]

more seriously, looks like he is running the risk of the sort of loss that would undermine his hopes for 1942

Curious to see what he does I think I would just rout them both out. Knock the 3 CV unit hopefully into a retreat into the 1 CV unit then hit them again to hopefully force the retreat into the open space then hit a third time to force the rout and inflict maximum casualties and morale loss on those 2 CAV corps and easily drop even the 3 CV to 1 CV for a turn or two.

We are 2 turns ahead and Stalino still resists...

I love this game!

I understand his decision: Destroying 2 russian cav corps early 1942 is tempting too

The Great Patriotic War (STE78 vs 821bobo)

Turn 32, 22th january 1942

Always a lot of fights from lake Seliger to Sumy and around Stalino

West of Moscow

Momentum is still on despite strong Pzd units

Image

Bryansk

The germans will obviously fight for the city

Image

Stalino

Fascinating battle. Northern part of the city is strongly defended but I make good progress south of the city

Image

And a closer view. My spearhead will be routed but I want supply to be shortened for german units holding the city.

The Great Patriotic War (STE78 vs 821bobo)

Post by STEF78 »

Turn 33, 29th january 1942

As we are reaching end january, my aim will be to keep my momentum as long as possible.

West of Moscow

Always seeking the weak spot. I did here a significant mistake and will pay for it

Image

Bryansk

Taking the city would secure this part of the front. Bobo doesn't agree! Bryansk is heavily defended

Image

Stalino

Intense fights in this area!

Before my moves

Image

And after, nothing decisive. The romanians in the South are in bad shape but the northern defence is still strong. Some Pzd/mot are only 5/10 hexes west and could reinforce the defence.

Small info from Axis side.

This does not happen often to the Germans.
It seems Hitler doesn't like my stubborn defense.

That's curious... you did a good job considering your forward defence all along the front.

An in the north you gave almost no ground

The Great Patriotic War (STE78 vs 821bobo)

Post by STEF78 »

Turn 34, 5th february 1942

New increase of the german CV. Focus on the 3 main areas

Smolensk

2 guards cav corps are isolated by a german counterattack. It will be difficult to save them as the 5 stacks between my Cav units and the rescuers are over 20

Image

Different attemps from the north and the south failed... the CV 21 stack proved to be a CV 27... my 2 Cav Corps are doomed [:(]

Stalino

Strong counterattacks from the german Pzd stabilize the german line. Stalino is still strongly in german hands

Image

After my moves, the southern defence of Stalino is near from collapsing. I have still 3 weeks to take the city

good tense stuff, nice to see a German player prepared to fight it out on the front lines.

I also think that if a German player wants to do real damage in 1942 (especially to industry and manpower) then they need to hold as far east in the winter as they can?

The most important thing for me is that this time the Blizzard was fun.
